Columbia River View Chalet Downtown Stevenson, Wa

Located in the heart of downtown Stevenson, this cozy and rustic home is a short walk to our local restaurants, shopping, coffee bistros, and riverfront. Centrally located in the Columbia River Gorge, you are just 40 minutes from the Portland airport and only 30 minutes from Hood River. Hiking, biking, windsurfing, kiteboarding, fishing, breweries, paddle boarding, wineries, and site seeing abound! Equipped with full kitchen, laundry room, outdoor patio, and amazing river and mountain views! This is a one of a kind home built using salvaged timber from the Mt. St. Helens eruption in 1980. Most of the structure and beams were made using a portable sawmill by the original owner in 1988. Many of the materials used were either hand made or recycled from old buildings. Wood and tile abound to create a very unique and rustic feel. Guests have use of the main part of this 2 story 3 bedroom 2 bath house. Fully furnished with a full kitchen and laundry room, guests have use of driveway, patio, and enormous front yard. The property is not fenced and is located on a busy street so guests must exercise caution with kids and pets. A large lockable storage shed, located just left of the garage door, is available to guests with prior arrangements made with the Host. The shed is large enough for bikes, most kayaks, and other recreational equipment. The Owner/Host lives in a separate studio above the garage that has it's own entrance and parking. The back patio is part of the Studio space and is not available to guests. Your Host loves living in the Columbia Gorge area and takes advantage of just about everything it has to offer. I am available for any questions about things to do, places to go, restaurants, pubs, wineries, hikes, and even things to avoid. I respect your privacy but love meeting new people and making new friends as well. The chateau is located Downtown Stevenson so if you are looking for a secluded and quite spot in the wilderness, this is not it. The town itself is busy and both gets up and goes to bed early. Everything Stevenson has to offer is just a short walk away including the market, shops, restaurants, fairgrounds, and popular waterfront. Stevenson itself is located in the heart of the Columbia Gorge. You are just and hour from and downtown Portland and 40 minutes from the airport. Hood River is only a 30 minute drive and the Oregon coast just over 2 hours away. Popular Skamania Lodge is located less than 2 miles away. Getting around town only requires your feet but you will need a vehicle to really take advantage of all the area has to offer. The house is located on sloped and uneven terrain. Guests must be able to navigate stairs to both enter, exit, and access all available areas of the property. As the property is located downtown, there is frequent truck, train, and automobile traffic. The house is definitely geared more towards families rather than groups of adults because of the sleeping arrangements and shared bathrooms.
