Salkeld Cottage, perfect for couples.

Salkeld Cottage is in the village of Gilcrux, near Cockermouth and situated between the Solway coast & Lake District park, ideal for walkers & pet owners. There are 2 pubs in the village serving lovely food. The cottage is part of a barn conversion along with 6 other cottages which accommodate 1 couple each. It features an open fire, four poster bed and steam cubicle. Guests can privately hire the hydro therapy hot tub (not included in price and not available on Sundays or some bank holidays) Salkeld cottage is part of a barn/stables conversion at Ellen hall exclusively for couples. The open plan living area has an open fire, fully fitted kitchen, free view TV and a large dining area . The bedroom and bathroom are upstairs. As well as a four poster bed the bedroom has second TV and another seating area as part of the mezzanine floor. The bathroom has an overhead power shower and the bath cubicle converts into a steam room with 2 fold down seats. Wayne and Jo live on site with their 2 children and 2 dogs. There is no reception area but there is a comprehensive information folder in the cottage which should answer most guests questions but we are more than happy to help with any further queries. The cottage is in a very peaceful area just outside the village of Gilcrux. It is about a 10 minute walk into the village which has 2 fantastic pubs that both do great food. Cockermouth is about a 10 minute drive away which has all manner of shops including Sainsburys, a fishmonger, butchers, bakeries, greengrocers and deli shops. You can be in the lake district national park within a 15 minute drive and the closest lakes are Crummock water and Buttermere, these are only 25 minutes away and the scenery in this area is breathtaking. We recommend that guests have their our cars as public transport is not that reliable in the area. Bookings of 3 nights or longer could give you a better nightly rate, depending on time of year. Short breaks during the peak season are at our discretion so may not be available, please enquire before booking. There is a large hydro therapy hot tub on site which is situated in it's own log cabin next to the beck that runs through the grounds. Guests can privately hire it during their stay at a cost of £10 for a 45 minute session. Please note that it is not available for hire on Sundays. Secondary heating and electricity for cooking and hot water is by £1 coin metre, average use is about 3/4 per day. Enough fuel is left in the cottage for the wood burner for 2 nights, there is an additional £10 if you chose to use it.
