Spring is coming, but winter fun is still great! The "Big Green Victorian" the place to stay while experiencing the Northeast Kingdom (NEK), is right on the Canadian Border. This little City is surrounded by all the things you're looking for, hiking, cross country skiing, biking, breweries, close to Jay Peak, restaurants and more! All without the crush of people. Come explore, stay & visit family, or friends, or do business. The "Big Green Victorian" looks to welcoming you here! This 2nd floor apartment offers a Queen-size bed with linens and blankets. The bath has a clawfoot tub/shower (shared, but only with others you come with), Cable, WiFi and laundry facilities. The kitchen is complete (except for a dishwasher) with refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker with Green Mountain Roasters Nantucket Blend coffee, pots, pans, dishes... A complimentary Gift Certificate to a local restaurant for breakfast will be on the coffee table with the keys. A screened in porch offers an additional social area (depending on the weather!). The comfortable large living room is adjacent to the kitchen and bedroom. There is an additional room attached with a full-size bed that is available to parties of 3 or more. If you are 2 people, who don't like sleeping in the same bed (for whatever reason), let me know and I will get the queen-size sofa bed ready for you. It has a memory foam mattress. There's no additional charge. However, if you prefer using the other bedroom, instead of the sofa bed, that can be arranged for an additional charge of $10.00 per night. If interested, let me know when booking. Groups of 5-6 are possible utilizing the sofa bed. If you have no need of the kitchen/laundry, you might take a look at my other listing, "Downstairs at the B.G.V." You might also consider booking both listings, to accommodate up to 9 people. Entrance to the apartment is through the main (shared) hallway in the front of the house, and up the stairs. Access to the apartment is private. Keys provided at check in. I look forward to welcoming you personally, but your arrival is based on your schedule, not mine. I like to contact my guest prior to their arrival to explain how to get to my driveway and into the house. When you arrive, the house and the apartment will be unlocked, and ready. Instructions about the keys and the doors are provided once you arrive. As it is a big house, I live here as well. So if you need something, I'm available and will do my best to help you. Newport itself, sits at the southern end of Lake Memphremagog, an Indian name meaning (and fitting), "beautiful waters." From the "BGV" you're a 5-minute walk/ski to the lake where, if you have snowshoes or cross-country skis, can traverse in a variety of directions once the lake is frozen. Best to check before you proceed though. However, cross-country skiing on the bike path is permitted. The top of the lake is in Magog, PQ (Canada), a charming, French Canadian city, 40 minutes away by car. Along the way, the trip takes you through some of the lovely Eastern Township communities providing a variety of seasonal offerings. A passport is required. My "Big Green Victorian - Upstairs" provides off-street parking for guests. Our City is small and has limited public transportation. A car is essential, especially in the winter. There are many interesting things to see, and do, within a 30 mile drive. Within 10 minutes you can be at Wal-Mart (if you are in need) and with 15 minutes, into Canada (as soon as the border opens!). The house is centrally located making it ideal for those who just like to walk around and see historic buildings, churches, art galleries... We have a diverse selection of restaurants, which are amazingly good, with offerings ranging from Thai at "Dusit Thai" to local craft beers and wines at "The Warehouse". If pizza, subs are what you're after, try "Hoagies". If you are wanting Italian, then "Lago Trattoria" is where you'll want to dine. If looking out at the lake while dining is what you crave, then "The Eastside" is for you. A short drive away, with an extensive menu and bar is "Vermont Pie and Pasta" or for breakfast or lunch, you might consider "Hillmer's on Main" or "The Brown Cow." Local breweries to visit are: Kingdom Brewery, about 15 minutes away and Farm Hillstead Brewery, about 40 minutes away. 30 minutes away is Jay Peak's Pump House Indoor Water Park. "The Big Green Victorian" is just 15 minutes from Derby Line if you are traveling for a Global Entry Review or to visit the Haskell Library and Opera House! A note to all perspective Airbnb guests: The B.G.V. does not use any type of surveillance technology, in any of the lodging areas. Your comfort and privacy is very important. Keeping you safe, secure, and respected is always a top priority.
