Nestled away in the beautiful hills of the Garfagnana, in north Tuscany, La Rupina, is an inclusive and stylish three-bedroom property with a private plunge pool (4mx2mx1m). Set in three and a half hectares of private gardens and woodland with access to its own private stream for swimming and cooling off on hot summer days. Although set in a tranquil vale, it is only a 10-minute drive away from the market town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana and 15 minutes from the beautiful medieval town of Barga. The house has a comfortable living area and kitchen with both indoor and outdoor dining areas. The covered terrace has comfortable seating and a hammock to just chill and relax and enjoy the view of the mountains. A perfect place for family and friends to enjoy the pleasures of rural Tuscany while being close to some of the best known tourist destinations in the world. The house has been recently renovated and beautifully designed to include suitable accessible for people with mobility difficulties. The upper floor is accessed via the pergola into the open plan kitchen and living room. It has a bedroom and ensuite wet floor shower room, with suitable wheelchair access. The lower floor comprises of two bedrooms and a wet floor shower. There is a foot path (1 in 20 gradient) which enables wheelchair access from the upper part of the garden to the swimming pool and barbecue area. However, please note that the swimming pool is not wheelchair accessible. The herb garden by the pergola is available with a variety of seasonal herbs for your cooking. Books and games are available for our guests. For the music lovers, a violin, guitar and ukulele are available. La Rupina is the perfect gateway for a family or group of friends, and we have designed it with specific features to accommodate guests with mobility difficulties, which includes: Extra wide parking space (5m) close to the front door (5m) that gives a step free, level access to the house. Extra wide step free front door (.95m) with a level step free pergola area (3.5m x 6m) Electric rise and fall kitchen unit with the hob and kitchen sink, with open access underneath. Also has a safety pressure switch to stop accidental lowering. Raised fridge. Eye level side opening oven. No wall units, all storage is on pull out draws for easy access. 1.2m to 1.5m circulation area between the kitchen table and the units. Extractor fan on/off is located at a reduced height. Bedroom and main bathroom have extra wide doors (.88m) Main bathroom has a wall hung disabled height toilet with hand bidet and grab rail. Downstairs bathroom has a wall hung disabled height toilet with hand bidet Toilet seat locks into the bowl for side transfer so there is no possibility of the seat becoming dislodged. Disabled height sink with no obstruction underneath. Main ensuite bathroom has a large wetroom roll in/ roll out shower area (1.2m x 1.7m) with both overhead and handheld showers and a shower chair available on request. Both upstairs and downstairs toilets have unobstructed space to the side (1m) to enable a side transfer for wheelchair users. All windows in the house have been made with reduced height handles, the windows in the bedrooms have mosquito nets and internal catches to hold the windows open at night and are fitted with blackout curtains that can be drawn over the windows, open or closed, allowing a cool nights sleep without the need for air conditioning. Upper and lower gardens are joined by an external wheelchair accessible footpath with a gradient of 1:20. All electrical sockets are located in a raised location throughout. All hot water outlets have been set by thermostat to stop accidental burning. The picturesque medieval villages of Ceserana and La Villa are 15 minutes' walk away from La Rupina. From the house, there are numerous hikes suitable for all different levels of abilities, including one through the forest to the beautiful medieval village of Silico, where you can enjoy a drink or a meal. Il Vecchio Ponte, Bar and Pizzaria is only 1km away which makes a perfect evening walk. Garfagnana is a perfect location for lovers of nature, hiking, mountain bike, rock climbing, and fishing. With its unspoiled forests, rivers, and scenic views it is also the perfect place to relax and enjoy the scenic views. Within reach of La Rupina are the beautiful historic cities of Florence, Pisa, and Lucca, which provide opportunities for great day outings. We can recommend tour guides for the above activities on request. We live in our own house, 70 meters away which is close enough for you to ask for help or information while being far enough away to give you privacy. We are in a rural location, but only a few minutes to the main road and a local train station. We are about 15mins walk to a local train station and pizza restaurant and local bus services. We can only accomodate bookings from Saturday to Saturday. Please note that the swimming pool does not have wheelchair access. We will be in our own house which is 75 metres away from your house. We will be discreet and respect your privacy during your stay, however, we will be available if you need assistance.
