The Baskerville an offers you a memorable stay within a marvellous location with a perfect blend of elegant, fine dining AA rosette restaurant & traditional village inn. It boast beautiful, cosy, old English style en-suite accommodation fully refurbished Jan 2019. The multi award winning, family-run inn is a real hidden gem set in rural Oxfordshire with the Thames path on your doorstep. With ideal rail links from London, there's no better place to escape for the weekend or short break A well presented double room with Ensuite facilities with walk-in power showers. All rooms are equipped with the facilities to ensure a comfortable stay. Run by the Hannah family for the past 16 years, the Baskerville has recently become a Free House for the first time since it was built in 1937. Celebrating signing a new 20 year independent free of tie lease in 2018, the Hannah family have passionately invested considerable time in updating and improving the premises. Originally from Scotland, the Hannah family have injected a little piece of Scotland into the Shiplake village. Kevin has taken over the driving seat from his father Allen, living 17 steps from the restaurant with his wife and 2 children. Tellingly there is little staff turnover and Kevin's enthusiasm for the business is infectious, "We have tried to make it a bit more heart of the community - it's a place you can come and have a really good pint of local beer, or you can have a fillet steak and a bottle of fine wine". The small town of Henley with its many interesting shops and home to the Henley Royal Regatta and the Henley Festival is only 2 miles away. Enjoy a boat trip up the Thames or visit the River and Rowing Museum. Try a night at the Kenton theatre, the fourth oldest in England. Within the village why not stroll along to Shiplake lock and watch the river cruisers pass through. A little further up the hill is the 13th century parish church of St Mary's where Alfred Lord Tennyson was married.
