Olivetto Stanthorpe
Olivetto is your country home away from home. Set 10km north of Stanthorpe amongst the productive apple orchards of Thulimbah, Olivetto is a beautiful 100 year old cottage that has been lovingly restored with a modern take on a traditional farmhouse feel. Olivetto sits on a 13 acre property with a mix of mown, park-like open grassy areas, planted fruit and olive trees, natural pine groves and lovely, untouched rocky outcrops with the granite boulders that the area is so famous for. As well as wildflowers and beautiful native trees, you might spot kangaroos, heaps of birdlife like lorikeets, cockatoos, ducks or our family of friendly magpies (they don’t swoop because we all have enough space and we are friends). You might even be lucky enough to see our gorgeous echidna waddling around! We ask that you to be kind to, and respectful of, the environment and its inhabitants during your stay. Children and pets should NEVER be allowed to chase the wildlife. We are visiting their environment, afterall. Situated at the northern end of town, and only an easy 2.5 hours drive from Brisbane, we are a great base for your Stanthorpe holiday! Around us we have several 5 star wineries, Stanthorpe Cheese, Vincenzo’s café and deli at the Big Apple, Sutton’s Apples (hot tip: get the pie!), pick-your-own orchards, walking trails, Sam’s Fruit Shop, Truffle Discovery Centre, Christmas Farm and Granite Belt Maze all within a 5-10 minute drive from us. Venture south of Stanthorpe on Day Two for more wineries, antique shops and cafes and restaurants. I'm available for questions throughout your stay on the app or on my mobile. The northern villages of the Granite Belt including Amiens, Dalveen, Fleurbaix, Thulimbah, The Summit and Applethorpe are a part of a thriving agricultural region, with an estimated 1 million apple trees producing all of Queensland’s apples. Apple-growing was first tried in the region in the 1870s by an Italian priest named Geranimo Davadi who observed that the land and conditions were similar to those of the fruit-growing areas of Italy. In those days, Stanthorpe was a flourishing tin-mining town, hence the name Stanthorpe which is derived from the Latin ‘Stannum” (tin) and ‘thorpe’ (village). When the mining ceased, it was the hobby and foresight of that priest that established the prosperity of the region into the future.
