beautiful king room in an historic old home
Located in the Adelaide Hills you will love stepping back in time to this grand old Federation-era bungalow, with its soaring ceilings and over-sized rooms, tastefully renovated with modern touches like heated floors and new combustion stove for the cosy winter vibes. Surrounded by wineries, orchards and other foodie delights, and just a short drive to historic Hahndorf, it's your perfect rural getaway! The North Wing (circa 1900s) of the home was originally built as a separate building, and at some point joined to the main house via what we now call the Sun Room. This wing has its own living room, multiple exits, and access to the pool, laundry and kitchen. The dimensions of the rooms are typical of this era: with high ceilings, large windows and generous proportions. You won't even know you're in the main house. In winter the bedroom is toasty warm thanks to the wood burning combustion oven (wood provided). In summer the sandstone house stays cool, especially with bedroom curtains drawn, but we have a fan for those rare hot, summer nights. For house guests the pool is conveniently accessed via a private door from the North Wing. Please note that this booking is for just the one bedroom and one bathroom, please do not use the other bedrooms or bathroom. This helps keep costs down for our guests, thank you. The North Wing is a spacious arm of our large home, with its own entry/exits. It has 3 bedrooms; we don't rent them out separately so you would be the only couple in the North Wing. If you book the North Wing it is your space, however we do ask that you refrain from using other bedrooms. This helps keep our cleaning costs down, thank you. The farm has ample parking. Check in instructions will show you where to park, and we'll show you how to access your own private entrance, the house is large and many guests get lost the first time. set on a Ridge the property has lovely rural views, we are very close to the quaint villages of Nairne and Woodside, which both have brand new excellent Foodlands and bottle shops. Other amenities nearby include: post office, fuel station, doctor, chemist. Local wineries are a short drive, as is Hahndorf. You'll need a car to get around the Hills. There is a taxi company based in Mt Barker and Ubers are becoming more common in the Hills. Please note, this listing is for a private room(s) in a private wing of the house, it does have a direct door to the pool which is a shared space, so other guests may use the pool during your stay. However, the North Wing is entirely your space only. Other guests cannot access your wing from the pool, the door is locked. As you are sharing the house kitchen with the farm manager (Katherine, and possibly her parents from time to time) it is not possible to quarantine/self-isolate here in the house, although you are welcome to book the Shepherd’s Cottage which is fully self-sufficient. Katherine lives in the other end of the house with her own bathroom, living room and guest room, but the large farmhouse kitchen is a shared space. We have two lovely cats who spend most of their time outdoors in the pine forest lining the driveway, and a young friendly enthusiastic kelpie, who is still learning her manners, so please consider a different place if animals aren’t your thing. Whilst we keep the animals out of The North Wing during guest stays they have been known to sneak in there on occasion, and they previously had full access to that end of the house and don’t fully understand this new situation. They also have access to the kitchen area and Ladies Room, though I generally encourage them to live on their sofa in our private entrance hall. The house is not “toddler-proof” and may not be a good fit for a family with little ones. My own children are now grown and we are loving having a more adult space to share with guests. Check in is from 2-9pm and check out by 10 am. The host will meet you to show you through to the North Wing, show you the private entry, and show you the shared spaces. You are welcome to drop off luggage earlier but the host may be busy doing turnover before 2pm.
