Medieval fort, southern Ardèche with gite loft apartment
Originally, a castle "Fort La Bastide" was built on the site of a Roman military station. The first historical mention is 1417 and its long history includes an invasion in 1584 by Protestants during the period of the Huguenot wars. The fort has retained many original features, including the old stone staircase at the entrance which is now associated with a chestnut staircase, leading to a 4-bedroom loft that occupies the entire second floor. SPACE : The loft has been recently renovated to offer a total living and sleeping area of 155 sqm. It is bright and airy with original chestnut beams and exposed stone walls. There are three spacious bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom and a double bedroom in the house tower with pebble floor and a murderous window. The living room has a fully equipped kitchen with a large oven, a microwave, a dishwasher and a coffee machine. A large dining table is transformed into a French and American billiard table, with TV and movies also available on request. OUTSIDE The garden and terrace offer breathtaking views of the countryside. There is full access to the garden and 10x4 m in-ground heated swimming POOL. There is a private barbecue area, a petanque court and a ping-pong table, plus 3 adult mountain bikes available on request. THE DISTRICT The house overlooks the village of Uzer, with its bar / hotel, mini supermarket, post office, hairdresser and pizzeria. The local river is a five-minute walk from the hill. 15 minutes to the north, the car takes you to the lively town of Aubenas while a road D104 to the south takes you to the cities of Joyeuse and Les Vans. Fort de la Bastide is located in the heart of Southern Ardèche with its famous rivers, gorges and caves, including the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site Chauvet Cave just 24 km away. Your trip will take you through vineyards, olive groves, rivers and natural climbing formations. From the picturesque village of Balazuc (4 km), you can rent canoes and spend a day or a half-day by canoe in the famous gorges of the Ardèche to the spectacular Pont d'Arc.
