Mystic Seahorse Cottage

The first signs of Spring are everywhere, which means Summer is right around the corner! Campfires, bike rides, walks to the beach and relaxation. In Mathews and surrounding areas you’ll find shopping, historical spots, great restaurants, local beer and wine. We are located in a quiet neighborhood at the end of the street. Come enjoy Gwynn’s Island, Mathews and the surrounding area! The Seahorse is a mysterious-looking creature that appears to float around coastal seas with a grace and level of perfection that sucks in observers and admirers from all quarters of society. The Mystic Seahorse Cottage, like its namesake, is a mystical and graceful retreat near the coast of the Chesapeake Bay. The Mystic Seahorse has two bedrooms, one queen and one full; real beds with memory foam toppers. All linens (sheets, blankets and towels) are provided and washed after each guest. Full bath with shower/tub combo. We always have toilet paper stocked for our guests. The living room has a couch and loveseat, coffee table and side table, and entertainment center. There is WiFi, XBox One, 32" TV with sound bar, Blu-Ray player, XBox games, tons of movies and plenty of books to read. There is no cable tv; however, you have access to our Disney+, Hulu, Netflix and ESPN apps through the XBox One. Just off the kitchen is the sunroom with bar height table for four and chair with ottoman. Sliding glass doors take you to the back yard from the sunroom. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, toaster, Keurig, and double sink. Plenty of glassware, plates, bowls, silverware, cooking pans, etc. We provide all paper towels and napkins. We always make sure there is coffee pods, creamer and sugar available and there is usually salt, pepper, and some spices left over from other guests. Outside we have a full size Weber charcoal grill with charcoal and lighter fluid provided, picnic table, table with chairs and umbrella. There is also a fire pit with chairs and a swing. Wood for the fire pit is provided. There are cushions for all the chairs and the swing. The garage has a washer and dryer available for your use. There are four bicycles in the garage for guest use. Cycle around the Island or to the beach! Check out our other cottage, Starlight Inlet. Our maximum length of stay is 7 nights with a 2 night minimum. House rules include no pets, no parties and maximum of 4 guests. We live right next door to the Mystic Seahorse and we are home most of the time if we aren't working. If there is anything you need feel free to walk on over or send us a text and we'll be right there. If we are out of town or at work we will do our best to offer solutions. If our guests wish to socialize with us we would love to get to know you, but we also respect the privacy of our guests and will never intrude. The Island is generally quiet as there are quite a few summer homes especially around the cottage. The Mystic Seahorse is at the end of a private road. We live right next door and also own the vacation rental across the road from the cottage. We have a dock on our property which our guests are encouraged to use. If you like to walk, our area of Gwynn's Island is a great place to take a stroll. The Island is also a great place to ride your bike. We have four bicycles waiting for you in the garage! The Hole in the Wall Waterfront Grill is right on the water, located next to the public boat launch. Excellent food, great service and the views are amazing! Mathews County is a quaint area with a Food Lion, two dollar stores and several great restaurants. You will find plenty of thrift/antique stores and boutiques. If you like canoeing or boating then Mathews County is the place to be. Mathews County is a great central location if you wish to visit attractions in Hampton Roads, the Northern Neck, or Richmond. We are located an hour drive from Colonial Williamsburg, 45 minutes from Yorktown, and approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours from Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Richmond is also an easy 1-1/2 hour drive. If you like antiques and thrift stores there are numerous stores within an hour of the Island, and of course history buffs don't want to miss out on the Victory Center in Yorktown, Colonial Williamsburg, as well as the Mariner's Museum in Newport News and Nauticus in Norfolk. There are numerous wineries and breweries to visit in the area, most within an hour; just ask us for recommendations. Like antiques and flea markets?
