House Description Come stay in at our park-like property on a breezy hilltop with a wide view of the ocean less than a mile distant. A pool and covered lanai is secluded and private in the backyard. The neighborhood is a pleasant but ordinary residential area on the east side of the island. Please don't expect resort-like surroundings. The shoji screens throughout the house, a traditional furo tub in the master bath and a traditional zendo (Buddhist meditation room) add to the serenity of the home. From the carport, the ground level entry leads into a carpeted and comfortable living room. There's plenty of room here for lounging, reading or enjoying entertainment on the smart tv. Central to the living space is the fully equipped kitchen. Visitors who were chefs have commented how well set up the kitchen is. You can easily step from kitchen to dining room (seats 6), or to the screened lanai where another table and chairs allows for lanai dining. The lanai also has a comfortable sofa and two chairs. Two bedrooms are on main floor each with an ensuite bathroom. Additionally, the master suite has a dressing room and a Japanese furo (soaking tub). These wooden soaking tubs are traditional in Japan. Off from the kitchen is the small zendo, traditionally used for meditation, but useable as an additional Tv room, a game room, or for reading or just snoozing. On the lower level is a bedroom with two twin beds and a petite full bathroom. A roomy laundry is also on the lower level. Right out the back doors from the living room is the fully fenced swimming pool and cabana shelter with table, chairs and a charcoal grill. The back yard is very private as is the rest of the property. The house sits on a small hilltop with lovely views of the ocean about a half mile distant. The driveway is gated and the property is fully fenced. A full 3-D tour of the interior is viewable at the following link.... paste into any browser: https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=bobXqMqtJPL&brand=0 ALL Guests MUST BE INCLUDED when making your reservation. (accurate number of guests) THE HOUSE IS SOLELY FOR REGISTERED GUESTS. NO outside visitors are allowed other than the REGISTERED GUESTS listed in your booking. If you have friends in the islands reach out to us to discuss ANY invitations of outsider guests to the house. This restriction is for liability issues, compliance with our permit to operate as a short term rental, and good neighborly relations. Pepeekeo is north of downtown Hilo by about 7 miles. The house sits on a 3 acre parcel next to the more heavily settled area of the the village. There is an itty bitty convenience store and post office but no real 'downtown'. Shopping is generally done in Hilo. Nearby there is another convenience store that also serves coffee, beverages and a variety of freshly made sandwiches and wraps. What's Shakin' smoothie stand is about a mile and a half walk away and the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is also near.. about two miles from the house. Akaka Falls (440 feet high) state park is in nearby Honomu, about 8 miles from the house. Volcano National Park is just under an hour to the south and the stunningly beautiful Waipio Valley is just under an hour to the north. Our "Pepeekeo House" is a good place for friends and family to base while touring the east side of our lovely Hawaii Island (The Big Island). Please don't expect the ritz! Our place is comfortable and clean but modest in style. The Hamakau coast is our treasured gem, gorgeous and tropical; but if nightclubs, pricey restaurants, mainland rushing, and new, new everything is your thing, better to go to Las Vegas!
