Nearby are the port of Brunsbüttel Ports and the lock systems. All of this can be explored on a long walk. The city of Brunsbüttel with its 13,000 inhabitants is located at the junction of the Elbe and the Kiel Canal and is the southernmost municipality in the Dithmarschen district. The industrial and port city has the most important seaport on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein. Economically, the city belongs to the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. Brunsbüttel is known for the lock systems of the Kiel Canal, the most used artificial waterway in the world. The canal divides Brunsbüttel into a northern and a southern part.
