Fox Cottage is a little gem. Recently beautifully refurbished, the 18th century thatched building is ideal for a relaxing break or for a longer stay. The Farm has rare-breed pigs, sheep, goats and chickens as well as heritage cider orchards and a 17th C. Cider House. It’s a short walk over the fields to the Teign estuary or a slightly longer one to Shaldon to visit the pub. Sample the meat produced on the Farm and collect your own eggs. Check out Tucketts Farm on FB for the latest news. The cottage is suitable for two people. Babies in travel cots or Moses baskets are welcome. Guests will have the run of the farm (apart from the areas to be avoided which are listed in the welcome pack) and can explore the orchards, fields and meadows. The farm, which covers around 73 acres of gardens, cider orchards, pastures, woodland and marshland going down to the Teign estuary, is 17 miles from Exeter. The estuary has a variety of bird life including herons, cormorants and egrets. There are also cirl buntings in the farm’s hedgerows. The 18th century cottage is one of a group of grade II* listed buildings constructed from the 17th to 20th century (see aerial photo) and was the original farmhouse. The thatched cider press and the barrel store date back to the 17th century. We are currently producing small batch cider, using modern techniques. The cottage’s kitchen is modern and extremely well-equipped. It has a wet room with shower and there is a shared laundry and freezer in the stables next door. The cottage has a private outside seating area with a gas barbecue. You can sample freshly-laid eggs during your stay. The cottage has the following rooms: LIVING ROOM TV (free-sat) Table/dining table 4 chairs Fireplace (working) Amazon Echo Reading lights WETROOM Shower Washbasin Toilet KITCHEN Small Aga stove Sink Cooking equipment Cooking utensils SCULLERY Sink Kettle Fridge Microwave Toaster Cooking equipment Cooking utensils Crockery Cutlery BEDROOM Double bed Bedside table and lamps (x 2) Chest of drawers Hanging rail and cupboard Mirror Electric blinds STABLES The stables is an adjacent Arts and Crafts building that contains a shared utility room with the following: Washing machine Tumble dryer Iron and ironing board Fridge/freezer There is also an ice-maker in the stables for use by guests. Private parking is available for up to three vehicles. Ann lives in the farmhouse which is 15 metres from Fox Cottage. You can contact her at any time either by telephoning or texting or simply knocking on her door. Ann will ensure there is always someone on hand to look after you. Fox Cottage is on a working farm and in a rural location. The nearest town is Newton Abbot, a small market town, which is a five minute car ride. In Newton Abbot there are Tesco, Sainsburys, Lidl, Aldi and Asda supermarkets as well as indoor and outdoor markets some days of the week. You can also choose from a variety of cafes and restaurants. Online grocery shopping can be delivered to the farm and there is a Waitrose in Exeter. There are several restaurants in Newton Abbot which will provide a delivery service. Please ask if you want recommendations. From Tucketts you can see Bishopsteignton across the estuary (suitable for a variety of water sports) and at the mouth of the estuary on the coast is Shaldon. Within walking distance is the village of Combeinteignhead, which has a historic church and two very good gastro-pubs (the Wild Goose Inn and the Coombe Cellars). We would recommend a car to get to Fox Cottage and to travel around outside the farm. If you don’t want to use a car we can arrange for a taxi to pick you up from Newton Abbot station (cost around £8). Newton Abbot is a stop on the mainline service between London Paddington and both Plymouth and Penzance (journey time around 2 hours 45 minutes). Leaving the farm on foot will involve walking on rural roads and pathways. For example, you can walk to the Coombe Cellars pub/restaurant, which is on the Teign Estuary. This walk takes around 15 to 20 minutes. At suitable times you can walk to Shaldon beside the river along the Templer Way. We can supply guests with meat (including burgers and sausages) from our own rare breed pigs and sheep. Please ask if you’re interested. Contact Ann if you have questions regarding the accommodation, the farm, or anything else. They will do their best to make your stay a memorable one. As Tucketts is a working farm it is important to close gates behind you.
