Named after the man Kilmartin Castle was built for, John Carswell. Expect a bright and crisp room, painted with lime paint, a technique used in the 16th Century, but with some modern day luxuries like the William Holland copper bath and the walk in en suite with rain shower. The concrete basin in the en suite is set on a piece of elm from a tree fallen nearby. There is a beautiful 4 poster bed and some fabulous artworks. Carswell looks out over Kilmartin Glen from the second floor of the castle and access is via the main stone spiral staircase. Kilmartin Castle was built in 1550 for John Carswell, the Rector of Kilmartin, later Bishop of the Isles. It was held by the Campbell Clan, then abandoned for 200 years.
