Buis les Barronnies is nestled below, and surrounded by, breath-taking pinkish crags of the Baronnies mountains. Rocher St Julien provides the village with a spectacular backdrop and offers 4 climbing routes of varying lengths and difficulties. With Mt Ventoux on the horizon, and the Rhone Valley a short drive away the village of just over 2000 people is very friendly and well serviced with all amenities within walking distance of the cottage. There are 2 supermarkets, a variety of cafes, restaurants and bars. There is also a tourist office, a swimming pool and a cinema. Every Wednesday there is a large and colourful open air market with beautiful seasonal produce and regional goods. The region of Provence has some of the best preserved Roman ruins in Europe including the Roman theatres and ruins in nearby Orange and Vaison la Romaine. The popular Cote du Rhone wine region is within an hour's drive of Buis and includes the famous village of Chateauneuf du Pape. Avignon is also less than an hour away and is home to the spectacular Palais des Papes, the home to the papal court during the 14th century. Mont Ventoux dominates the Provence skyline and even if you don't love the Tour de France the pilgrimage to the summit (2000 metres above sea level) provides breathtaking views of the region. Sault and the Luberon Valley make for beautiful day trips, especially in Summer when the fields are dominated with french lavender. Nyon is a village 45 minutes north west of Buis - it is a medieval town with cobblestone streets and it is the source of the local olives that grow extensively around Buis. It also has a fabulous Thursday market. The cliff top towns of nearby Gordes and Roussillon provide amazing views and close to Gordes is the unforgettable Abbey de Senanque. Hiking trails are prolific around Buis and maps are available in the cottage and the Tourist office. Buis and its surrounds are also a popular destination for rock climbers and guided excursions can be arranged via the Tourist Office. Our beautiful stone cottage spans 4 levels and is not suited to people who cannot navigate stairs. Gas cooking, dishwasher and washing machine available. Weekly and monthly discounts apply.
