My home sits on the Hudson River. Nearby are the Catskill Mountains, Hudson, Hunter, Saugerties, Woodstock, and ski destinations. Our homey old farmhouse is not fussy. Beautiful Hudson River views in every season. Great locale for bikers, outdoors folks, stargazers and birders; we see wintering eagles and others that stay with us year-round. Lovely, large second floor bedroom has a private entry and also a private bathroom with claw foot tub. Bed is queen size with organic cotton sheets and down comforter and extra pillows. We also have a single cot that is suitable for one child - or mid-sized adult without back problems. Windows look out onto the Hudson River. There are outdoor sitting areas and a walk through our 15 acre woods with views of the mountain, wetlands and Hudson River. You'll find surprise places to sit quietly for as long as you wish. We have a fire pit for your use - if conditions permit. Pat is recently retired and so is able to answer your questions and help you to navigate the area, if necessary. Visit Thomas Cole House; Olana; Beatty Powers Place; Time and Space Limited (movies, Metropolitan Opera live (and repeat) simulcasts, National Theater of London live (and repeat) simulcasts, art exhibition space with Linda Mussmann and Claudia Bruce; Helsinki Hudson (fabulous music venue). Endless antiquing and spots to walk, hike, run, bike, kayak, swim or bird-watch. You'll need a car! Catskill Village is 5 miles away; Amtrak in Hudson is across the Rip Van Winkle Bridge: about 17 miles; ski and hiking destinations - Catskill State Park, Hunter and Windham - are about 20+ miles or 30+ minutes by car. Uber drivers are not usually local people and they notoriously cannot find our house. There is taxi service but our place is on an unpaved road and driving apps do not always direct you correctly. Guests have been stranded; been late for events waiting for transportation. You REALLY need a car here. I live on an unpaved, gravel road. Hope that is ok for you and your car. In winter, it is best to have all-wheel drive as there is a sloping driveway to the house. Importantly, we are keeping bees. They are not near to the house; guests needn't encounter them at all - unless you wish to admire their industry. In which case, Pat will take you on a tour! Water is well-sourced, not treated municipal water. Depending on the level of the water table, it can have the odor of sulphur. You'd pay extra for that at the spas in Saratoga! It is safe and clean; good for the hair and skin. We drink it but if it is "fragrant" we can offer other water.
