Our guesthouse is across the driveway from the main house on 1.5 acres on a quiet country road, yet only 2 miles from Old Town Auburn, 3 miles from the Auburn State Recreation Area, and 1.5 hours from Lake Tahoe. The guesthouse is approximately 500 sq ft and has its own entrance with convenient parking. It’s perfect for a single or couple, and comfortably sleeps up to 4 adults. It is suitable for longer term stays. Your hosts at Rambler’s Roost have been reconfiguring and upgrading our space! The Roost is now more spacious and occupies the best spot on the property, yet still has a cozy private mountain cabin vibe. We are thrilled with its transformation and excited about sharing it with new and returning guests. We think it’s such a nice place to hang out and read, commune with nature, make art, retreat, regroup, and/or reconnect. The updated Roost features a queen size bed and a full size futon, a full-side bay window, a well-appointed kitchenette, a large double-vanity bathroom, a clothes closet, and a big private-use deck overlooking the pond and surrounding nature. The deck is outfitted with umbrellas, patio lights, a table, and seating to watch hummingbirds, listen to frogs, and catch the sunset—a perfect spot for happy hour. The kitchenette is complete with small versions of everything you need to cook and eat-in: microwave, fridge with freezer, toaster oven, double burner glass cooktop, coffee maker, dishes and cooking essentials. We supply a few staples, a selection of teas and freshly ground coffee; and whenever possible, fresh fruit and homemade granola with almond or soy milk. The main room and bedroom nook are natural wood throughout. The queen size bed is a new, medium-firm Sealy Cocoon mattress. The futon doubles as a couch and can be opened into a full size bed. The futon is firm and we provide a soft topper to accommodate different preferences. There’s WIFI and the television is Roku enabled featuring three paid streaming services: Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Netflix. There’s also a desk-size table and chairs for dining, playing a game, and/or working. The space has a new, super-quiet air conditioning and heating unit. The bathroom is large, with two sinks, a walk-in tiled shower, and separate toilet area. We provide nice soft towels as well as shampoo, conditioner, soap, hairdryer, etc. There’s also a closet with a chest of drawers and extra blankets/pillows, a small iron and ironing board and an extra table-top fan. (Note that there is one full step up from the hallway into the bathroom.) The Roost is well-lit for art projects (or work), and the space is gloriously filled with natural daylight. Throughout you’ll find original art pieces and photography by previous guests and other people we know and love. The property is always “coming along” but there’s something special about it even when it’s rough. We just love being here and we hope our guests do too. Our host philosophy stems from the conviction that we are all family. We embrace our mutual interdependence and strive to provide a super-clean comfortable private space for everyone with whom our paths cross. We take great pride in making you feel at home. My mom would have loved this place, loved being your host, and so this endeavor of mine is dedicated to her. She would have said with the warmest smile and a brogue, “céad míle fáilte.” —————————— Our unit is private and separate from our house, checkin and out are contact-free, and I am solely responsible for cleaning and maintaining it. Every extra measure is taken to sanitize the living space. I am committed to your safety and comfort no less than I would be for myself and my own family. Please don’t hesitate to contact me regarding your questions. All for one and one for all. --Gina You’re welcome to wander. There is an unfenced pond on the property so please be cautious with children. We can accommodate extra cars, though not all parking is on pavement. We're friendly and available across the driveway if you need anything but we'll assume that you want privacy and make sure you have it. Auburn is a really fun place to be. We have wineries, breweries, museums, art, shops, and it’s an outdoors-person’s paradise. The Auburn State Recreation Area has it all: trails for hiking, running, backpacking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and OHV; the American River for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, floating, rafting, fishing, and gold panning. There’s even some serious rock climbing to do here. We are super-close to Old Town Auburn and Downtown Auburn, as well as Newcastle. There are numerous restaurants, galleries, and shops nearby; and check out the Placer Wine and Ale Trail for a wider excursion into the local terrain. There's free parking at various locations that will get you into the Auburn State Recreation Area for running or hiking: Murphy's Gate, along the road near China Gate, and at American River Overlook Park. Parking is $10 at or near the confluence but that gets you really close to the river if you just want to hang out and cool off. We have maps in the guesthouse--ask us about any features of the park you're interested in visiting. If you're into cooler or cold (depending on the time of year), head up I80 toward Truckee. We are only 1 hour from skiing at Boreal, and 1.5 hours to numerous runs in the North Lake Tahoe area. Or take a hike along part of the Pacific Crest Trail with spectacular views of Donner Lake--that's less than an hour drive. We recommend that you drive or take Lyft to get around. Park and walk once you're in old town or downtown Auburn. Bars, shops, coffee, breweries, museums, restaurants--it's all there. We love dogs and understand people that don't want to travel without theirs. We don't think our property is well-suited to host dogs because it's not fenced and there are cats that roam the property (as well as raccoons, skunks, foxes and deer). But, if you'd like to stay here with your well-behaved non-cat-chasing dog, send us a message so we can work that out. We'd also prefer that, if we agree to host you and your pup, that you not leave your dog unattended in the guesthouse. Thanks!
