The Purdy Cabin is a unique riverside accommodation, everyone's perfect gathering place. The 3 level deck overlooking the water is a relaxing place to enjoy watching a variety of birds and wildlife as you dine, sip coffee or read a good book. Don't forget the marshmallows for roasting at the fire pit. It is within easy access of float trip out fitters and great hiking/biking trails are nearby. Tahlequah with its unique boutiques, antique shops and dining opportunities is an easy 10 minute drive. The original cabin was built as a simple one room dwelling with a screened in sleeping porch in 1964. Over the years rooms were added and spaces remodeled but it was always a vacation property until the mid 1980's when it was again altered and became a permanent home for the owners. In 2015 it was updated and a new three level deck installed. The current owner also converted a garage as well as other space to make an apartment to live in so the main house could be rented as an exclusive private guest house. The deck overlooks an inlet of the scenic Illinois River. Fish, birds and other wildlife can be spotted from any part of the deck. A gas grill is also located on the deck. The house boasts a wood burning fireplace and an outdoor fire pit is located in the yard. Wood is supplied. A large collection of board games, cards, dominoes, puzzles and videos are available. The kitchen is fully stocked and guests will enjoy quality bed and bath linens. The owner lives on the property but is very respectful of guests privacy. Her apartment is self contained with her own entry, and deck. She can easily be contacted with a phone call or text message. Guests should be respectful of the neighbors property and privacy. Outdoor quiet hours begin at 10:00 pm. It is easy to get to the Cabin. Just about three miles from Tahlequah up Scenic Highway 10. Guests will turn on Ben George Road for a winding and hilly one mile, then the last half mile on 556 Road will be gravel as it cuts through a plant nursery. You know you have arrived when you see the Welcome to the Cabin sign. We are the house on the left with natural cedar siding. Parking is on the cement pad in front of the house. The river bank is the back yard. The area around Tahlequah is very scenic and easily accessible with any car. Hiking and biking trails are nearby although you may need a pass or licence to access some of them. The Scenic Rivers headquarters and GRDA office is nearby. The float trip outfitters are all along the highway and within a few miles. Tahlequah is the Capital of the Cherokee Nation. There are many historical and cultural venues for guests to tour. Tahlequah is also home to Northeastern State University. They have a beautiful campus with some historical buildings. Tahlequah also has a vibrant downtown area with many shopping and dining opportunities.
