Fronting on Huntington's Ritter Park and above the eastern portion of our original 1915 garages is the home's freshly restored & refurbished ~700 sq. ft. carriage house. It offers 1 bedroom (1 double bed only- so 2 "bed-share"), perfect kitchen, 1 car garage, washer and dryer, gas log fireplace, work area, high-speed WIFI, and satellite televisions (300 channels/HBO). This unit is suitable for a single guest or a romantic couple. The carriage house is near MU and downtown's many amenities. As the only short term rental guest house fronting on the park, our carriage house is unique. Its restoration/renovation was completed in September, 2017 to a high standard. The Ritter Park Historic District is a very nice and very safe neighborhood. Guests who enjoy the outdoors will appreciate the park's well-kept hiking trails a few steps away...or simply relaxing and enjoying the birds and other wildlife that abound. Guests are welcome to enjoy the grounds of Park Lawn during their stay for relaxation. It is fun to curl up in a comfy lawn chair with a book or to toss a blanket on the grass and enjoy a picnic. After all, Park Lawn is the largest property fronting on Huntington's nationally renowned Ritter Park. This manicured acre is a beautifully landscaped slice of West Virginia---it's a perfect small park adjacent to a perfect big one. While we are very respectful of our guests privacy, we are quite available to offer suggestions for dining, recreation, shopping and entertainment in the Tri-State area. We are happy to help make our carriage house guest's stay as pleasant as possible. Park Lawn is a contributing resource to the Ritter Park Historic District, a special and beloved part of Huntington. The park originated in 1918 as an important civic project and the main block of the park, directly across the street from our property, was then a pasture and sawmill complex. Owned at the time by the Ritter family, they donated part of their land for the city's new "Central Park" which carries their name today. Many handsome original homes front the main, rectangular block of the park as well as its three mile extension along a small, picturesque stream and North Park Boulevard. Ritter park and plentiful, interesting historic architecture make this neighborhood one of the most beautiful and pleasant in our handsome city. An important amenity to our location is the ease with which one can be downtown or to the main campus of Marshall University. Public transportation is nearby. Two adults is the maximum number of guests we will accommodate in the carriage house. There is one double bed only and the L-sofa does not have a sleeper pull out. Thus, two guests sleep together. As this is a National Register listed historic property mounted above original, early garages, the carriage house does not offer access for the handicapped, we are sorry to say. The carriage house is a no-smoking environment and it has sensitive detectors. There are no exceptions to our no-pets, no-smoking rules.
