Hello! My name is Hannah. I love my renovated farmhouse and I hope you do, too. I own a Sportswear company and AirBnb to pay off my house early. This renovated farmhouse is for the traveler who cherishes cozy spaces and a relaxing, care-free time. Ideally located in the SUBURBS of Chicago, this well-decorated farmhouse is ready to accommodate 2 people. SAFE neighborhood! 15m to Wheaton College 12m to Fermilab 12m to Geneva/St. Charles 10m walk to Metra I'm looking for a long term renter - at least three moths to stay. Ideally - a quiet professional woman or female student. Please message me about long term stays. THE NEIGHBORHOOD This 1080 sqft home is warm (not temp wise, just in atmosphere!), clean, quiet, and is located in a safe, mature neighborhood in the suburbs of Chicago. I'm good friends (practically family with some neighbors). They watch the place like a hawk (because they're retired and bored, not because of the area!) and know that I AirBnb my home. My neighbors are very friendly and if they see you on a walk or the front porch, they'll likely greet you and smile. SHARING IS CARING The space is for a private room. Everything else is shared, so keep that in mind if that's not your jam. Shared spaces: Nice-sized comfortable living room, fully-equipped kitchen, prepped dining room, a bathroom with bath, washer + dryer, and an amazing "want-to-stay-here-forever" front porch. OLD AS THE HILLS It's incredibly hard to manage expectations on AirBnb, but I'll do my best with this. My home is 135 years old. The floors creek. The stairs are steep. The doors sometimes creek. All the rooms are upstairs and in close proximity to each other. This is not the ideal 'snuggle with my bae for the weekend' space. The stairs inside my home are pretty steep and narrow - please exercise caution when using. This house is not for the rowdy and reckless. I do provide earplugs, an area rug, and fans to help, but that doesn't take away from the fact that this house is 100+ years old and is chatty. SUBURBS Just a remind that is space is located in the city of West Chicago and NOT in the west section of downtown Chicago. To get downtown, you'll need to talk 10 minutes to the Metra Train Station and then take a 55 minute ride to downtown (Ogilvie Station). You can also catch an Uber that will run you about $55. PROXIMITY Most people are coming to visit people at Wheaton College, work at Fermilab, visit attraction downtown, or have an event/conference in Geneva or St. Charles. This space is an ideal hub for the above. Fermilab in Warrenville - 12 mins Fermilab in Batavia - 14 mins Wheaton College - 14 mins Wheaton Academy - 4 mins Pheasant Run Resort - 8 mins Geneva - 12 mins St. Charles - 13 mins Downtown - 1 hour drive/Uber or 55 minute train ride KIDS AND STUFF I have no kids I am a non smoker and do not allow drugs or smoking on the premises. I do own the most adorable Labradoodle (Ace). She's hypoallergenic, friendly, and a happy pup. YOUR ROOM Space is for a bedroom with a full bed with quality linens and bedding, space for your clothes, extra pillows and blanket, a phone charger, snacks, water, iron, and mirror. There's a SmartLock on the bedroom door for added privacy when you leave the home. HOME CULTURE Like I mentioned, I run a business from my home and have two employees who work five days each week. Even though it's a quiet home, there's still a buzz because of the constant work. Sometimes I host a small group at my house. Sometimes I have friends over for dinner. It's a quiet home in that there's no partying or kids, but there's definitely commotion or activity at times (when I'm in town). BECAUSE I LOVE YOU - All linens and towels are supplied. - Toiletries are provided as well. - Wifi (GOOD wifi at that!) - Need a fan for the noise? I got that! - Fridge space - Free parking (for one car) - Local and city recommendations SELF CHECK-IN Whether I'm in town or not, I''ll be ready for your arrival and will provide self check-in details the day you need them. There will be other guests in the other bedrooms during your stay. LESS THAN FIVE STAR REVIEW COMMENTS I have great ratings but that doesn't mean ALL of the reviews have been five stars. There's an element of truth to all of them (mostly), and in this section I want to address them so you can understand the validity of them. Ants - During the summer, an occasional wood ant will be found in the Farmhouse. Probably a half dozen ants are spotted each summer. If you are allergic to ants or are bothered by them, I would NOT recommend you book this during May-October. Location - Some were upset that I wasn't located in Downtown Chicago or that I was too far away from a place they were wanting to visit. I try to make it clear in the listing how far away I am from main places. I'm happy to provide drive time prior to bookings. Dusty room - Guest was correct. I had work done in a room (custom trim) and the dust from the plaster continued to settle for weeks and weeks. When they visited, I had failed to vacuum the dust off the bed and lamps. My bad. I'm glad they pointed this out. Unwelcoming - It all came down to lack of communication and guest confusion and if it hadn't resulted in a bad rating, it would be humorous. I'm friendly and always super happy to have guests in my home. I really felt so bad about that miscommunication during our initial greeting. Check-in - The guest messaged me and told me the check-in issue was her fault (she knocked on the wrong door) and that it wasn't my directions. Regardless and funnily enough, she still gave the checkin process 4 stars. Temps / Sticky door - I empower guests to change the thermostat to their liking (I'm a hotbox and can NOT handle the heat). Instead of asking me to change it or changing it themselves, they dealt with it and rated reflectively. The front door has been maintenanced and is no longer sticky/finicky. You're welcome into every part of my home during your stay with the exception of the other bedrooms. The washer and dryer are located in the basement (door in kitchen). The basement is not haunted, but it's not exactly HGTV ready. Detergent and softener are provided. All spaces (besides your room) are shared. The expectation is that you leave each shared space in the original or better condition than how you found it. Just depending on the week, I may or may not be in town, so the following may happen: 1. You'll have the house to yourself (very unlikely) 2. You'll never meet me and share the space with other guests (likely) 3. You'll see me here or there and I'll be staying at the house with you (somewhat likely) Either way, I'll be ready for your arrival. The neighborhood is quiet and nice. My neighbors are so kind and may make small talk with you if you're taking advantage of the front porch. The neighborhood is wonderful to walk through - lots of nice homes to appreciate. If you want to go downtown Chicago, take the Metra. The train station is less than a 12 minute walk from my house (and it's an easy, nice walk). Use Uber or Lyft to get around the burbs. Walking to the train station? Here are the quickest walking directions: 1. Turn right leaving my porch. 2. Turn right at the Stop Sign turning on to Washington. 3. Turn left on to Oakwood. 4. Before Chicago rounds to the left and becomes a Colford, there is a church parking lot to your right - wall through that parking lot to the stairs and go up the stairs. 5. Keep walking until you get to the street (Main Street). When safe, cross Main Street. Ta-da. You’re at the train station. I am 5’2” and this walk takes me 9–11 minutes. Easy, safe walk mostly through neighborhoods. And there's delivery in case you get hungry! Uber Eats: use code eats-V269i to get $5 off your first order DoorDash: use (Website hidden by Airbnb) to get $7 off your first order. This house is very much loved by me. I care for it deeply and will ask that all guests show it the same love. I love kids and have the pics to prove it but this home is not suitable for children.
