" Captain's Quarters", at Sylvanrude, Lakebay WA

The Captains Quarters at Sylvanrude is a step into a forest full of old growth Douglas Fir, Hemlock, Maple and Cedar trees, as well as giant Sword Fern. The beach is a short hike down a narrow bank trail, and this garage apartment is well equipped for a short or longer stay. A small bathrooms boasts a shower, and "mini" sink on a hand made stone mosaic floor, while the cozy bedroom is complete with an original 1920's bed frame built by the owner of the adjoining large cabin. The apartment has a stove, with oven, a toaster oven, coffee maker,and microwave, counter seating, extra bedding, dishes, plenty of towels, and great walking areas including the beach. This property is located just 10 minutes from the historical town of Home, Washington, which was an original "commune" on the Key Peninsula. Some of the buildings, and homes still stand. If you're a history buff or like reading Seattle author, Timothy Egan, you'll love this place. There are a number of walking trails, as well as the beaches of Case Inlet, which are best experienced in the summer at the very low tides. Shell collecting is encouraged. Key Center is close for coffee, and Figuroa's pizza! While the beach is outstanding, guests should prepare for a steep trail, which although maintained year round, it gets muddy, and slick. The trail is not for everyone, due its steep climb down and upward, although going down is far easier than coming up! Wind, high tides, and sloughing off of the bank can cause walking challenges to the beach in the winter, and although it's maintained, Mother Nature can get ahead of me. The aging bulkhead is slated for repair in July/August 2022. The area above the bulkhead is walkable, but has temporary planking in place, for easier access. There is also a fire pit, and wood available. This is an apartment ABOVE A GARAGE, (a place where you park cars) there are 20 carpeted stairs to access the apartment. The steel garage is NOT what is being referred to. :)
