A quiet hideaway on two floors of The Foreman House. Built in the 1830’s, the property is a Class 1 Historic Site and formerly part of The Leiper Estate, "Avondale" circa 1785, nestled in a valley on the banks of Crum Creek in Wallingford, PA. *Ideal for one or two guests. **Not suitable for small children. ***May not also be suitable for those who are elderly, or other adults with mobility concerns, due to the original interior spiral staircases and exterior stairs. A quiet hideaway on the upper two floors of The Foreman House, with private entrance and deck. Built in the 1830’s, the property is a Class 1 Historic Site and formerly part of The Leiper Estate, "Avondale" circa 1785, nestled in a valley on the banks of Crum Creek in Wallingford, PA. Please understand that we prefer multiple night stays vs single nights. We have made exceptions on occasion, but prefer multiple nights or a two-night stay minimum. Ideal for a romantic getaway, or to visit the many historic and cultural sites in the area, or for visiting college students or parents. Visiting professors and medical students performing residencies at area hospitals will find an ideal, quiet retreat to study or simply unwind and rest. Beautiful, original wide plank hardwood floors warm your private, two level space. *Ideal for one or two guests. **Not suitable for small children. ***May not also be suitable for those who are elderly, or other adults with mobility concerns, due to the original interior spiral staircases and exterior stairs. (There is a flight of stairs down from the parking area and another up to the entry. The interior space includes fairly steep, original built-in spiral staircases.) The lower level on the second floor of The Foreman House is one open space including a recently-renovated, full kitchen, dining and living area with a quaint, cast-iron gas stove. The upper level on the third floor is one open space that includes a beautifully furnished, romantic bedroom with quaint, cast-iron gas stove, and a vintage-modernized full bath and soaking tub. Relax in the modern adirondack chairs on your private deck overlooking the spring-fed waterfall and brook, or walk the beautifully-landscaped and secluded grounds, footbridge, and paths, surrounded on two sides by Springhaven Country Club and the other by Avondale Road and Crum Creek. Walk down Avondale Road along Crum Creek to the creekside park on The Leiper Estate, and visit the The Thomas Leiper House and museum, circa 1785. The two-story space offers old world charm and new, modern amenities with a sense of seclusion near Philadelphia International Airport, Swarthmore and its renowned College, Media, Springfield, as well as minutes away from shopping and dining in nearly every direction. The Septa Bus line is a convenient fifty yard walk away, and the Wallingford Station on the Septa Media-Elwyn Rail Line, as well as Swarthmore Station just a few bus stops, and minutes away. The first floor of The Foreman House and the attached Studio are offices occupied by a design firm, as well as a wellness and yoga studio. Parking is in the rear of the building, from which you cross the footbridge. The entrance is on the second floor, just up the steps on the deck. The keys are in a lock box. The code for your stay will be provided prior to your arrival. The apartment will be cleaned and prepped for your stay. The bed will be made up with fresh linens and there are plenty of clean towels too. The kitchen is fully equipped with appliances and dishes, silverware, etc. But there is no dishwasher nor washer and dryer. WiFi access is provided as well. Basic cable is provided including a flat screen HDTV. We have limited if any direct interaction with our guests. The apartment has its own entry with a key lockbox for your convenience. We welcome guests to contact us via text, email or call if needed. Wallingford and our surrounding area are beautiful and convenient to many activities and attractions. (In 2009, Wallingford was named the Ninth Best Place to Live in the US by Money Magazine.) There are all manner of restaurants, stores, and such very close by – in Media, Swarthmore, Springfield and every direction, all just minutes away. We have favorites and are glad to provide you a list of those, just let us know what you need or are looking for. A couple of miles away is the county seat – Media, PA. It’s a quaint little town, the main street is State Street on which there are many great places to eat & drink. Philadelphia is only 20-30 minutes away and has lots to offer. Public transportation includes a bus stop a brief walk up the hill, and two train stations on the Media/Elwyn Line a mile or two away. The airport is 15 minutes away as well. Philadelphia, the Jersey shore, and scenic rural counties north and west of us are all within, or just over, an hour away. Check in is at 4pm. Check out is at 11am. (As is typical with hotel stays) We may be able to accommodate an earlier arrival or later departure - if there are no concerns with other guests’ reservations.
