3-bedroom 2.5 bath sleeps eight, on Wisconsin's cleanest, most beautiful lake. 2-night minimum stay. Condo includes wood fireplace, flat-screen TV, Blu-Ray/DVD, A/C, small sauna, wraparound deck, private dock, propane grill. Complex has common dock and swim area, small beach, campfire pits, picnic tables, playground and tennis courts (also marked for pickleball). The condo is a comfortable, well-appointed space, and Lake Owen is outstanding among the many beautiful lakes in Wisconsin for the clarity of its water and its depth. Large portions of its shoreline remain undeveloped and wild. Loon calls fill the air and eagles soar overhead. Layout: main level has a half bathroom; upper level has lofted master bedroom (queen bed) and full bathroom (shower); lower level has two bedrooms, one w/ queen bed, other w/ queen bed + 'day bed/trundle bed' that converts into two twins suitable for children. Shared full bath (tub+shower) on lower level. Please note that, although the listing says "Sleeps eight," the maximum number of adults is six. Guests have access to the entire condo and its private dock. Guests also have access to the common grounds of the condo community, including the waterfront with main dock and associated swim area, small beach, kids' playground, picnic tables and fire pits, two tennis courts (also lined for pickleball), one allotted parking spot next to the unit and additional spots depending on availability, either located further down the driveway near the trash dumpster or in one of the adjacent driveways to the garage units, so long as vehicles do not impede garage or unit access by others in the community. The unit's private dock offers at least one available boat slip--the owners' boat often occupies the other slip. However, if two slips are needed, it might be possible to arrange that with advance notice. When facing the lake, the unit's private dock is the furthest dock to the left at the end of the long wooden walkway running parallel to the lakeshore. Please note that any boat you bring must be launched at Lake Owen Dam at the other end of the lake (about a 20-minute drive away), where there is a power-washing station and a very good boat ramp. The old boat launch at the condo community has been closed to guests by the condo association. (Further use by owners has been strongly discouraged as well.) Lake Owen Dam should be findable via GPS, but let us know if you would like traditional directions. To get back to our condo by lake from the Dam, turn right out of the launch, take another right through the shallow, slow-no-wake narrow passage along the oldest boathouse on the lake (originally built in the 1890s), and go all the way down to the (south) end of the lake, which ends in two bays. Our bay is on the right, and our property is located at the right (western) corner of the bay. Our private dock, where you should park and tie up, is the very last (connected) one on the right. In driving down the lake, keep to the middle, as there are numerous hidden, rocky shallow spots along the shoreline. The owners may be staying elsewhere at the condos, but will not be staying in the unit you rent--that will be all yours. There is one place to eat bar food and get drinks on Lake Owen-- Otter Bay Resort. The Otter Burger is tasty and you can eat outside on the deck overlooking the lake (be sure to put on bug spray). To get there by boat, go around the second big peninsula on the right side of the lake (driving north from the condos), go (very slowly) through the little narrows and then all the way to the end of the bay (called Otter Bay). To get there by car, turn left out of the driveway, go straight through the stop sign where Resort Road becomes McAully Road, take a left at the dead end onto Lake Owen Drive, turn left at the corner where you'll see a sign for Otter Bay Resort, and then left again into the Otter Bay Resort driveway (marked by a Hamm's sign with the resort name), past the motel units to the right and on around to the bar. You can get gas for boats at Otter Bay, too, but it's much cheaper to fill your tanks in town. Nearby American Legion, located at the intersection of Trail Inn Road and County Highway M, does a nice Friday fish fry. The nearest town to the condo is Cable, 4 miles south, where you can get groceries at Rondeau's, great pizza at the River's Eatery, which shares a storefront with Redbery Books, breakfast, lunch and/or dessert at the Brick House (they also cater meals), coffee/tea, smoothies, breakfast and lunch at Velo Cafe and greasy-spoon breakfast or lunch at Cable Cafe. You can also visit the excellent Natural History Museum or the Cable Historical Museum, check out the Forest Lodge library and find gifts and souvenirs. Rocky's Service Center has a surprisingly good wine selection! The Triple G Service Center has a Subway inside. Finer Dining is available down County M a few miles at the Rookery. Further down, Garmisch is worth a visit as well, with its quirky style and beautiful views of Lake Namekagon. You can play golf at Telemark Resort off of County M or a little further down at Lakewoods. There are various gift and antique stores in town in Cable and also a little south of it down Highway 63. 20 miles south of Cable is Hayward, a bigger town with a Wal-Mart, a movie theater, and more restaurant and bar options (and a giant muskie). You can bowl (at Angler's Bar), drive go-carts, and putt-putt. Big Fish is a very good golf course in Hayward. The Angry Minnow brews its own beer (the Scotch Ale is a favorite if available) and along with River Deck has arguably the best food in Hayward. Rent bikes or cross-county skis from New Moon or Riverbrook - New Moon has snowshoe rentals as well. There are exceptional, well-groomed trails throughout the area for ski, snowmobile, snowshoe and biking. There is no public transit in the area, so plan to have a vehicle if you want to get very far away from the condo. Also note: although the condo is on the lake, it sits atop a steep hill -- there are stairs to go down to the lakefront, or if stairs don't work for you, can take your car around to the common beach/dock area. We require a two-night minimum stay. Also, we unfortunately cannot allow pets, as our community rules do not permit renters or guests to bring pets. Although the condo sleeps eight, that assumes at least two children. The maximum number of adults is six.
