Morningstone on Mayne is a masterwork mosaic of places we have visited and loved: English gardens, Cotswold stone, European castles, Mediterranean stairways & arches, Guatemalan courtyards. Greg asked himself, “What could one man build with his own two hands?” So he cut & set each stone. Cut & shaped each tree. Forged & hammered iron. Three self-contained suites with private entrances are safe and restorative spaces, each with oceanfront balcony, just steps down to a sandy beach with kayaks. This suite is the most spacious of three suites at Morningstone (see also Oceanfront 1 and Oceanfront 2@Morningstone). Features include an ocean-view tumbled stone shower, queen-sized bed with goose-down duvet and down pillows, dining table and chairs, easy chairs, books and games, a TV and DVD player. On the large ocean-front stone deck is a patio table with chairs and private BBQ. Kitchenette well-equipped with fridge, toaster, microwave, kettle and French press coffee maker. Provisions for breakfast on your first morning include "Foodsafe" handled and prepared fruit, granola & milk, homemade bread, butter & jam, coffee, tea and cream. These are replenished upon request for subsequent mornings. Overhead fan keeps room cool and breezy in warmer weather. The heated stone floors keep the room snug and warm in cooler weather. For a small fee: laundry service and sleeping mats for additional guests. Beach access to sandy beach, courtyard with tables and chairs,, outdoor gardens and seating areas. We are on the property, reachable by text. Greg always has a new stone project on the go and you are welcome to hang around and watch. This summer's project? A stone dove-cote. The beach, just steps away, is perfect for launching a kayak and paddling in some of the most beautiful sealife-filled waters in the world. Mayne Island in the Southern Gulf Islands is a choice destination for sailing, kayaking, biking, and for walking the beautiful seaside and forest trails. Our island is a restful but vibrant home to artists and writers, to small farmers and to ordinary, hard working folk like ourselves. The peaceful outdoor and indoor beauty of Morningstone makes this an ideal retreat for rest, writing and creative expression. From your room, enjoy the summer sunset views over Galiano and Saltspring Islands, kingfishers and osprey diving for fish, otters and seals in the bay, orcas swimming into Active Pass and the deer wandering by. Restaurants, bakery, and grocery store (with deli and fresh produce) are in Miners' Bay, 3 km. away. The Japanese Gardens in Dinner Bay are within walking distance. Morningstone is at 233 Callaghan, only a 10 minute walk from the ferry: right on Dalton, right on Mariners' Way, right on Callaghan. A little short cut if you are walking or bicycling: From the the top of the ferry terminal, turn right on Dalton. Just as you come to the bend in the road, you will see the park with sign "Village Bay Community Park." Enter the forest and take the immediate right turning that takes you gently downhill. This trail will bring you past an outhouse and onto a cul-de-sac by the boat launch. From there, just go up the hill and you will see Morningstone to your right. There is also a by-donation Community Bus service between ferry and Miners' Bay. There are "car-stops" for hitch-hiking; however, Mayne Islanders are often happy to pick up hitch-hikers anywhere you happen to be. FERRIES B.C. Ferries vehicle and foot passenger reservations (online) between Tsawwassen and Mayne are highly recommended year 'round. Sailing are frequently fully booked, so do make ferry you reservations as soon as your B&B reservation is confirmed!
