We pay above the living wage standards; 100% of your cleaning fee is paid to the cleaners (i.e. no profit to us) and we insist on a professional level of cleaning between guests. We love the High Desert for a lot of reasons - including the open spaces, lack of crowds, and dry weather that we believe make it a safe place to visit. The Space: Brought to life by Los Angeles-based Jeremy Levine Design, Hawk & Mesa is set on 120 acres full of boulders, ancient junipers, desert oaks, and Joshua trees for you to explore and admire. The property has no immediate neighbors, enhancing the profound sense of solitude. Flat-top mesas abound — including those in the nearby Sand to Snow National Monument. Hiking and stargazing are truly world-class in this desirable Pipes Canyon locale. -BEDS & BATHS- The home can comfortably sleep up to four guests in two bedrooms, with an ensuite bathroom adjoining the master bedroom. Both bedrooms offer California king mattresses from Saatva and direct patio access. Both bathrooms include walk-in showers, and a washer and dryer are available for any laundry needs. For maximum privacy, the two bedrooms and baths are located on opposite ends of the house. -KITCHEN & DINING- The center of the house is an inviting open plan with the kitchen, dining room, and living room. The kitchen includes a gas stove, oven, fridge, freezer, and dishwasher, and the drawers are stocked with dishes and utensils. There’s also a Keurig coffee maker and blender so you can whip up your morning beverage of choice. Set against the impressive desert backdrop, the dining table seats 6. The outdoor dining table is also just steps away. -LIVING SPACE- From the living room, the majesty of the scenery is on full display due to soaring walls of glass and ceilings reaching 13 feet tall. Although you might be tempted to forgo technology during your stay, the living room has a smart TV and bluetooth speaker so you can stream your favorites. -OUTDOOR SPACE- The house offers generous shaded sitting areas outside for comfort even at the height of summer. A propane fire feature invites guests to pull chairs close for magical nights, even when the weather turns cool. After a day of activities follow a short path to a magical group of boulders where a Jacuzzi-brand hot tub awaits, along with a “cowboy tub” — a repurposed galvanized stock tank offering cool dips in warm weather. -ESSENTIALS- Parking is available for at least 2 vehicles. It’s close to everything – and yet very much set apart with next to no light or noise pollution. The area is surrounded by dramatic flat-top lava buttes, towering and weathered boulders, and an abundance of Joshua trees. Pipes Canyon is immediately adjacent to the Sand to Snow National Monument as well as the Pioneertown Mountains Preserve, both offering endless hiking and exploring opportunities, and the West Entrance of Joshua Tree National Park is about 30 minutes away by car. Although you may be tempted to spend your whole trip exploring Pipes Canyon, many more area highlights are accessible within a short drive: • Pioneertown (10-minute drive) - Put on your ten-gallon hat and stroll down Mane Street of this Wild West-inspired town, also known for Pappy & Harriet’s, a notable restaurant and venue. • Yucca Valley (20-minute drive) - Convenient stop for chain stores and local eateries, like Carla's Route 62 Diner and C & S Coffee Shop • Joshua Tree Village (20-minute drive) - Quirky strip of boutiques and restaurants, including Coyote Corner, Space Cowboy Books, and the rustic Joshua Tree Saloon • Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Art Museum (20-minute drive) - As far from a stuffy gallery as you can imagine, this outdoor sculpture garden contains a unique collection of folk-art. • The Integratron (20-minute drive) - New age-y healing destination with a sound bath, originally designed by ufologist George Van Tassel with the goal of reversing the aging process. • Palm Springs (45-minute drive) - Artsy town known for vintage shopping, art galleries, and the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. • Mt. San Jacinto State Park (90-minute drive) - Expansive, hilly landscape with foot and horseback trails surrounding 10,834-foot Mount San Jacinto. Of course, let’s not forget about the essentials. While a car is required to get around, a four wheel drive car is not, but note that roads will often have ruts, particularly after a rain.
