Lost River Cloud room (Queen)
Lost River Hostel is NOT your average place. :-) Somewhere between a resort and camping, Lost River Hostel is a nonprofit arts and cultural center located on a 29 acre hillside in West Baden Springs. With the farmhouse on a hillside and the guesthouse in the forest, the hostel is a hub of conversation and inspiration. A lovingly prepared communal dinner is included with each night's stay. There are wonderful places in this world that inspire us such as mountains, cathedrals, forests, fields, caves, and the sea. People inspire us too. Those who teach, who lead by example, who create, who perform, who follow their passions, and who radiate kindness. Those people that give you the sense of “if they can do it, so can I!” The Lost River Hostel blends both of these things; striving to build and maintain an extraordinary space fueled by a constant cycle of generosity and creativity. We hope everyone who stays here will go back into the world refreshed and rejuvenated – wanting to be better people and do great things. While there is no central religious belief system of those who live/work at the hostel, we do believe in making the world a better place and constantly learning new things as we go by providing a distraction-free, reflective space. In greater efforts to do this, we will also be hosting workshops and events related to music, writing, yoga, organic gardening, cooking, and environmental sustainability. Your room is in a round house in the middle of the forest filled with ONLY bedrooms. Each room is private and has exterior access. During three seasons there is a shared outdoor showerhouse and spa tub just outside this guesthouse (take a bath under the stars!). All year long there are two nearby outdoor compost toilets. In addition, there is one regular toilet and shower that are located in the main house just down the path. We find that most people tend to spend the majority of their non-sleeping time walking the grounds or in the main farmhouse with common rooms and an art space. There are often games, live music, cooking experiments, and other general shenanigans. The nearby parks, national forests, tourist town, and ski slopes provide MANY things to do while you're here! Just a few more things - a large organic garden / A large kitchen / Dozens of old growth hardwood trees / Mature fruit trees / A delightful indoor common area / An art/sun room / A breathtaking view / A chicken coop (with chickens! BAWK BAWK.) / Access to The Lost River (we have kayaks) / An original root cellar / A few fire pits / A small cave / A young hedge-maze labyrinth / The Clay Lagoon (swimming hole) There is an ever changing staff that will be eager to show you around and tell you anything you need to know. The joined towns of West Baden and French Lick are a beautiful little tourist spot located 3 minutes from the hostel. There you will find: West Baden Springs Hotel and Gardens / The cute downtown of French Lick / Paoli Peaks Skiing / Hoosier National Forest / The Shirley Creek Trail / French Lick Winery & Restaurant / Wilstem Ranch/Zip Lines / Indoor Karting / Big Splash Indoor Water Park / French Lick Casino Parking is ample at Lost River, though it will be a trek up a hill to get from your car to the room. We can provide pickup from the bus station in Paoli if necessary. Just let us know! This is not a traditional space and is not heavy on amenities. Walking the trails on the property can be challenging for some, and there are not many creature comforts at Lost River - though we do have heating and air for when mother nature shows up!
