This is an exquisite post and beam house, built in the early 1800s in the Craftsman style, is filled with character and with an open design living space on the main floor. We added a breakfast area with a large round table that seats six comfortably. Perched on a hill, set well back from the road, amidst gardens and immense trees offers great privacy. The surroundings make you feel like being in a remote country retreat, yet you are only two blocks off Main Street. Ours is an older home, but recently remodeled with new hardwood floors throughout. None the less, you may hear the occasional creak or notice a slight slope in the floor here and there. The first floor has the well equipped kitchen, windowed breakfast area looking out on the gardens with door to a dining deck. This deck houses a gas grille cooking area and round wrought iron table with umbrella. The table seats eight. The kitchen is partially open to an 18 x 30 foot living and dining space. The dining table seats ten. A door leads to a 12 x 22 foot outdoor raised deck tucked behind a screen of lilac bushes. It contains plenty of wrought iron seating and tables. A main entrance hall runs from the living area to the front door. A gracious stairway leads from there to the second floor. The second floor has a full bath and two bedrooms (king in one and queen in the other). Both second floor bedrooms are equipped with air conditioning units. Off the front entrance hall is a full bath, master bedroom (king) and a small den. The den has a computer work space and Roku TV with Netflix installed. WiFi accessible throughout house and much of the yard. You will have access to whole property and the entire house except the basement. We are usually available to welcome you, answer any questions and give you ideas on how enhance your visit. Walk down the street to town. Visit the Delhi Diner or any one of the wonderful local restaurants such as the Blue Bee Café (think old school Starbucks) or sushi at the Tuna III. Do some shopping at Stewart’s Department Store, a historical fixture in Delhi, lovingly restored and a shopping experience from years gone by. Buy some flowers for your sweetie at the Sunny Dale Flower Shoppe or get all dolled up at the Be Youtiful Salon. Organic produce can be had at Good Cheap Foods (right at the bottom of our street) and the pizza options are too many to list. There is a Price Chopper Grocery Store on the edge of town as well (2 minute car trip). The Trail Link and the NY Hiking Trail Finder can help you find a number of great hiking trails in the area that you might want to try out while visiting as well. Through their Golf Management Program, SUNY Delhi maintains an excellent 18 hole golf course with restaurant, bar and dining terrace open to the public. We call it our "Country Club" - and it's as good as any for great golf or to just enjoy lunch or dinner on the patio. The setting in exquisite. Just 2.5 miles from our house. There are plenty of possible day trips in the area. For the baseball enthusiast, Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame is only an hour away. Skiing in the winter is available at Ski Plattekill (45 minutes away). Take the kids to the county fair in Walton in August or to the historic restoration at Hanford Mills Museum which features an authentic water- and steam-powered sawmill for year round fun. Or maybe you would want to explore the Howe Caves where it always feels like spring. We have plenty of ideas and will provide you information in a guest book when you arrive. There is limited bus service on Trailways from Oneonta and New York City to Delhi. The bus stops in the center of town and the house is accessible by foot from town (.3 miles, 6 minute walk). Otherwise you will need a car to get to the house. Once you are all snuggled in, you can get to town by foot. If you want to explore all the great features the region offers, you will need a car. If you like to hang-out, stay in and hibernate; this house is situated in off the beaten path with a great backyard-showcasing deck, lawn and patio space to spare. Watch the birds, roast marshmallows over the fire pit, polish your badminton skills, star gaze at night or just curl up with a book.
