Mrs. T.'s BnB was the set for three full length movies! The home was built in 1880 but in 1906, when the trains came to Parry Sound, it was set on logs and pulled by horses down the hill to its present location. William Beatty, son of the founder of Parry Sound, William Beatty, was its first owner. A picture of our home hangs in the Parry Sound Museum. There have only been four families live in the house since 1880. Each of the four guest rooms is named after one of the four families. There are three bedrooms for rent with occupancy of 2 per room. The rooms are on the second floor, beautifully appointed and clean. Beatty Suite has a small en-suite bathroom and the two other rooms share one updated three piece bathroom on the second floor. There is also a three piece washroom with shower on the first floor for guest use. The Beatty Suite (queen bed) also has a fireplace and two couches, one in the small sitting area and a new pull out sofa bed in the adjoining sun room. The Sweeney Room (queen bed, second largest room) is beside the washroom and opens onto a beautiful new deck overlooking the gardens. The Wheatley Suite (smallest room, double bed)also opens onto the deck as above. The attic (when whole house is rented) has a playroom with two smaller beds, and a double bed in a small separate room. These accommodations are all lovingly restored and decorated. Bedding is high quality with ironed sheets. There are serviceable closets and dressers, and a tv, air-conditioning and internet in each room. Each floor meets fire safety requirements with smoke and carbon monoxide detector. The woodwork of the staircase, second floor hall and doors are original to the house. There is a wood-burning fireplace in the more formal parlour or living room (antique rosewood couch and chairs, four stained glass windows) and another in the dining room which keep the rooms cozy in cooler weather. Both fires will be set on cool mornings at breakfast times. The walnut dining room table can seat twelve. The chandelier adds sparkle to the silver tea set. A gas fireplace warms up the family room where we can be found in the evenings. The kitchen is updated and has a large microwave, fridge and new stove. Breakfast is included in the price of the room. Please let us know of any allergies or dietary concerns. Mrs. T. will have an assortment of fresh fruit, breads and muffins, eggs, bacon and or sausages, cereals, yogurts and toast /jam/honey/peanut butter. On alternate days, she serves up pancakes and the extras. Coffees, teas and a variety of juices will also be on offer. Breakfast is usually set for 8:30. Grounds include front yard facing the street, side yard with yard swing, first back yard leading to another back yard. On the grounds you will find perennial beds, vegetable beds, water feature, large Victorian bird bath, screened gazebo with comfortable seating, café tables, octagonal picnic table, two lawn swings (one for snoozing!), and Muskoka chairs for gatherings. Birds, squirrels and chipmunks enjoy the seeds left in the two bird feeders. Sunsets over the Sound are spectacular and can be viewed from the wicker chairs or dining area on the front wrap-around porch. The grounds are lit with solar lights and are very pretty at night. Our home is located within walking distance of major attractions in Parry Sound (the harbour, two beaches, fitness trail, Stockey Center for the Performing Arts, tour boats). Barnaby, our little dog (Papillon) is friendly, well-behaved and quiet and does not interact with guests unless invited. In consideration of other guests, no children under twelve unless you are renting the whole house. Rooms in attic then also available. Children twelve and older are welcome at all other times. We have a private area in the basement and the two doors to access this area will be worded as such. Guests are warmly welcome to make use of all areas of the house except for this private area. We will be available to help you plan your stay by making suggestions as to what you might want to see and do. There is a selection of brochures and maps of the Parry Sound area available. We will make every effort not to intrude on your stay but would love to chat anytime you like. We have private sleeping accommodations in the basement and the two doors to access this area will be marked Private. We may also sleep in our little trailer which is parked on the driveway. Guests are warmly welcome to make use of all areas of the house and grounds except for these private areas. Mrs. T.'s B and B is run as a Bed & Breakfast. However, if requested, guests may rent the entire house in which case Mrs. and Mr. T. will stay off property but nearby Mrs. T.s B. and B. is situated close to the two town beaches. Friendly neighbors own well maintained spacious homes and lots. Parry Sound is a train town with two main lines: you will hear the trains rumble but usually no whistle blows at our bnb. You can walk to most services and activities. 24 hour taxi service. Two Provincial Parks are fifteen/thirty minute drive from town. Airplane tours, boat cruises, water taxi are all for hire and Andrew and Sandra would love to take you on a boat tour also if possible! Please note! You will hear the train rumble through town and sometimes the whistle, day and night. Our bedrooms are on the second floor so there are stairs to climb and we are not wheelchair accessible. Sorry. About Us! Sandra (Smith) Thomson was born and raised in Listowel, Ontario. Her father drove truck for Listowel Transport Lines for forty years. When the company moved to Elmira, Ontario, Sandra’s family moved there. Sandra was going into grade eleven at that time. By the end of grade eleven, Sandra and Andrew were high school sweethearts. They were married after university as they started their careers. Sandra was a teacher for 25 years, most of her career was teaching Kindergarten. They moved to Parry Sound with three small children so Andrew could continue his law practice here. Sandra is retired and both Andrew and Sandra are now trained family mediators. Four of their five children are married and Andrew and Sandra have ten grandchildren. Sandra was affectionately known as “Mrs. T.” by her students. Every morning in Kindergarten class, Mrs. T. and her little students sang a song called, “We Know How To Share A Lot”. It is this attitude of kindness and sharing that will be an integral part of her bed and breakfast business. We have a small dog (Papillon) named Barnaby. He is five years old, friendly and well trained. He is a wonderful watch dog and will bark a greeting as you arrive. You will probably not see or hear him after that and guest rooms, including the dining room are "off limits" for him.
