Watch eagles and ospreys soar high above the shore. Kayak alongside cownose rays, and bask in the natural beauty of the watershed. Enjoy all the Chesapeake Bay has to offer in this stunning bayfront cottage just steps from the water. Only 45 minutes from Washington, DC, this home is the perfect retreat. Built in 1990 as a hunting lodge, this beautiful craftsman offers 1,500-square feet of inviting living space. The open living room, dining area, and kitchen have an abundance of natural light and modern amenities with floor-to-ceiling views of the Chesapeake Bay. The private dock is free for you to use for crabbing, fishing, and swimming. Please be safe when using the dock. All water activities are undertaken at your own risk. We live in the area, and are a short drive away if anything serious comes up. We will do our best to respond as quickly as possible to your questions through the Airbnb app or by phone. Our cottage is a five-minute drive from North Beach, Maryland, in the United States. Founded in 1900, the town of North Beach is fondly nicknamed the "Jewel of the Chesapeake Bay." Early residents flocked to this area to build their vacation cottages away from the hustle and bustle of Washington and Baltimore. More than a century later, visitors come to enjoy the seven-block waterfront with its lively public fishing pier, boardwalk, and bike path. Some fun outdoor activities include: PUBLIC BEACH AND SWIMMING AREA: North Beach offers year-round access to its public beach and swimming area for a fee. Kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, bicycles, inner tubes, and beach chairs are also available to rent. PUBLIC WALKING PATH: There is a public walking path directly in front of the house that leads to the town of North Beach. JUG BAY WETLANDS SANCTUARY: Drive 15 minutes for beautiful wetlands hiking. The sanctuary boasts 1,700 acres of open water, forested wetlands, and tidal freshwater marshes. Some of the trails are suspended over the water! FOSSIL HUNTING: Channel your inner paleontologist in a hunt for shark teeth fossils! Drive 15 minutes south to Bay Front Park ("Brownie's Beach") in Chesapeake Beach, MD, to dig for fossils right in the sand. Some fossils are reportedly 28 million years old! For the indoor types, check out: BAYSIDE HISTORY MUSEUM: Go back in time to learn about Captain John Smith's camping trip in nearby Holland Point, MD. This museum features a number of exhibits that trace the history of the region. CHESAPEAKE BEACH RAILWAY MUSEUM: From 1900 to 1935, tourists from Southern Maryland took the one-hour "Honeysuckle Route" train ride to Chesapeake Beach for fun and frivolity at the region's premier resort and amusement park. But when the Great Depression hit, this lively entertainment center – and its famous train line – went dark. This museum preserves the history of resort and railway in one of the former train stations. The building is even listed on the National Register of Historic Places. SCORPION BREWING: Located in Owings, MD, this microbrewery specializes in producing beer with local ingredients. Free tours, growler fillings, and tastings are available Thursday through Sunday. SHOPPING: The town center offers many eclectic shops. Visit Nice and Fleazy Antiques at 9131 Bay Avenue to find unique treasures to commemorate your North Beach visit. The Wheel at 4109 7th Street sells high-end souvenirs, clothing, wine, and food and hosts a great backyard bar with live music on weekends. North Beach also has a number of excellent restaurants. Looking to indulge in a Maryland-style crab feast? Check out Tyler's Tackle Shop & Crab House at 8210 Bayside Road, where you can pick up a dozen or more cooked crabs to go. Want more low-key fare? Neptune's Seafood Pub at 8800 Chesapeake Ave offers hearty pub food including crab cakes and burgers. A little further away, Skipper's Pier Restaurant & Dock Bar at 6158 Drum Point Road features live music and a beautiful view of the marina with delicious entrees of fresh seafood and steak. For groceries, visit Chesapeake's Bounty at 9124 Bay Avenue. This amazing brick-and-mortar store offers locally-sourced produce and seafood alongside your kitchen staples. You can also buy cooked crabs at the food truck out back! If you need more of a selection, Roland's of Chesapeake Station at 7875 Bayside Road is your best bet. The house is only a 45-minute drive from Washington, DC (depending on traffic). We usually take the Suitland Parkway to MD 4 South. The closest airport is BWI outside Baltimore. We are not accessible by public transportation. Check In: 4 pm Check Out: 12 pm You will need to use Magnolia Street to access Bay Front Avenue. There is a private road that accesses Bay Front Avenue closer to the property, but this road belongs to our neighbor and not available to use. Trash collection comes every Friday morning. If your visit falls on a Friday, please pull out the trash and recycling cans by our next door neighbor's house on Thursday night. The truck does not come all the way down the street to collect our trash. Before you leave, be sure to bring the cans back to the side of the house. We greatly appreciate your help! To be respectful of our elderly neighbors, we are not a party or wedding venue. We are also an allergen-free property, so no pets are allowed. Smoking is only allowed outside with an ashtray.
