Right above the river with a fire circle down on the river. Our 2 bedroom/2 bath log cabin comes with a river to splash in, and wonderful decks to sit on and watch the river. Semi-secluded. Occupancy limited to 2 adults. Hiking, the Virginia Creeper Trail, the famous Shatley Springs Restaurant, canoe rental places and more nearby. Plus, W. Jefferson with fun shops and art galleries. There is excellent internet and no TV to spoil the sound of the river. We call our much-loved cabin Hollyhock. It is right on the river. The beds are queen size. You provide linens (to keep down the cost) unless you arrange to rent some for a small fee. Occupancy is limited to 2 guests. A couple with up to 2 children will be considered on request. The woodstove works with pressed wax logs. The kitchen is well equipped and has a collection of cook books. There are lots of other books, too. Comfortable deck chairs call for river watching. The river is usually shallow and wonderful for tubing and wading. A fire circle is near the riverbank. Usually there are enough fallen branches for a little fire. Canoes, kayaks, and tubes can be rented from several local places. There is peace and quiet. The cabin is available only from mid-May through mid-October. Sorry, we cannot accommodate pets (allergies). No smoking, please, anywhere for the same reason. We do not have AC (it is usually nice and cool down at the river) or a dishwasher. The cabin is entirely yours when you are there. We do not provide linens but arrangements can be made for a small extra charge if you are flying to the area. There is river frontage with the property and a tiny park with more river access just a few hundred feet away. We will not be around, so will have no interaction while you are there. The mountains speak for themselves. They are always beautiful. The cabin is 45 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, Boone, Grayson Highlands and the Virginia Creeper Trail and lots more. West Jefferson, the nearby town, has a wonderful Farmers Market and many art and craft shops. There are plenty of hiking possibilities. It is at the end of a road winding down to the river and is somewhat secluded-- no houses on either side and one wooded acre straight across the river. To either side of that acre are some houses are somewhat visible. You can arrange canoeing, kayaking, and/or tubing river trips with a company (Zaloos) in Ashe County. The parking area by the cabin does not have room to turn around. Guests need to be comfortable backing down a short incline. No public transit is available. The cabin is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Grayson Highlands park just over the Virginia line. It has many wonderful hiking trails. The main town, West Jefferson, is a mecca of art galleries and other interesting shops. Internet is provided. Old-time and country music events are sometimes scheduled in West Jefferson and at the Phipps Country Store on Friday nights which is very close to the cabin. There is heat (of course!) but no AC. Also, no dishwasher.
