Spacious, clean private room with abundant sunlight, comfortable bed, private bathroom futon and desk. You'll be comfortable, relaxed and at home if you book this private room in my home. The room is spacious and has a feel of a mini-studio. It's freshly painted, as of January 2020. This room is almost like living in your own private studio. It has a private bathroom, a comfortable bed, a large memory foam futon that folds into an extra sleeping place, a nightstand, a large shelf for you to store your personal belongings and a desk/chair in case you need to get some work done. The room gets plenty of daylight and the windows look out to the backyard. The room is set towards the back of the house, giving you plenty of privacy, quiet and peace. The room is located next to the kitchen and dining room on the main floor. You'll be able to spend time in the room or enjoy the rest of the house. The living room has a comfortable couch to lounge on. There's a large kitchen table to work from. Overall it's a spacious house which is relaxing to spend time in. The house is older and needs updating / modernization but will charm you with its wooden floors and Craftsman style design. This room is a comfortable, affordable option if you're coming to DC as a tourist or for business and need a home-like environment to stay in. A/C and Heating: DC weather is pleasant in the Springtime and during the month of April/May you probably won't need heating or A/C. During the summer months, the window A/C unit for the room cools the room down. (There is no A/C in other parts of the house but your room is cool with the window A/C unit). Heating: The house has central radiator heating and the room comes with an effective electric heater for the room. For long-term stays, during the coldest winter months, I do request a small contribution to the electricity bill - one that is proportionate to your use/time. Whether you're coming to DC as a tourist or for work, you'll have plenty of privacy when you want it while at the same time having the option to enjoy various spots in the house. When you're not spending time in the room, you can enjoy the rest of the house. The living room has a comfortable couch to lounge on. There's a large kitchen table to work from. I have a garden in the backyard - if you're here during the right season you can enjoy the fresh vegetables, herbs and flowers. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, cooking utensils, a French press, a toaster, hand blender and food processor. I'm a friendly, respectful and mindful host. I use Air BnB both as a host and as a guest - so I understand what it means to be a good host and know how to be a good guest! I am very familiar with Washington, DC and happy to give you tips or information about the city. I love Washington, DC for many reasons- happy to share my favorite spots and things to do with others. Happy to help you out with logistics and when I can, take you to the grocery store with me or drop/pick you from the metro. I work from home part of the time so I am in/out most of the day. Mount Rainier, MD is on the border of NE DC (Brookland/Catholic University) and Maryland, off of Rhode Island Avenue. It's a cute neighborhood, built primarily in the 1930s/40s, with residential streets and houses that have backyards twice the size of the house. The neighborhood is full of artists, socially conscious people, and numerous entrepreneurs. Within a 5- minute walk from my house is a food co-op that has been there since 1969. They accept volunteers in 3-5 hour shifts (if you're interested) and volunteers get $9.25 in food credit for every hour you volunteer. There's also a vegan restaurant, an organic juice bar, a knick knack shop, a dance studio within a 5- minute walk from my house. The area is accessible via bus to a few metro lines and is a 15 min bus ride down Rhode Island Avenue to the Rhode Island Avenue metro stop on the red line. The directions below might have changed since I wrote this so please check to confirm routes/timing. From the Red Line: Take the Red Line to the Rhode Island Ave-Brentwood Station, then take the 83, 86 or T18 bus to the Mount Rainier Circle. Bus should take about 15-20. Getting downtown from Rhode Island Avenue metro is about 20 minutes on the metro, depending where you are going. From the Green Line: Take the Green Line to West Hyattsville Station, then take the F8 Eastbound towards Cheverly Station or The Bus 13 Southbound to Rhode Island Avenue. Additional routes include F1 and F2. The Bus 13 Northbound will take you back to the West Hyattsville Station. By Bicycle from Washington, DC: Ride the Metropolitan Branch Trail to Monroe and 8th Street, then navigate through neighborhood streets about two miles to the Mount Rainier Circle. Continue up Rhode Island Avenue or follow the Northeast Branch Trail for off-street riding to Hyattsville. More information on bike trails at TrailLink. There is no TV or cable. From time-to-time friends come over and bring their dogs. I also sometimes dog-sit a medium-size 25 pound dog. She's sweet, friendly and well-behaved. I don't wear shoes in the house and request guests to remove shoes when they come in. Sometimes dust from the front door blows in when people come/go. For this reason, I recommend bringing house slippers to wear indoors.
