February 20, 2022 update to our guests: We would like to thank each and every person that chose our cabin to enjoy a stay in the valley. We're so happy to have you. Mom loves it and continues to be diligent with the COVID cleaning protocols. As stated, all of us are fully vaccinated. As a final note, we may be forced to add a cleaning fee in the future. If this does happen, we will give plenty of notice to our future guests. We so much appreciate the business that you all have given us. Our property is approximately 3 acres at the end of Ruddock Road in Philo, California. We're directly adjacent to Indian Creek Road on one side, and privately owned large acreage in the back. When in season and in good years, we have fresh picked peaches, nectarines, and apricots from trees in the yard, and mom's garden might offer tomatoes and other fresh produce during the garden season. The cottage has a private bathroom with a small shower, washer and dryer and a full kitchen. Suitable for one child with a fold out queen sofa bed in the front room. The sunroom is a barrier between the bedroom and the back yard. The adjacent bedroom wall has a picture window to the sunroom next to the back door. The sunroom is a popular private place to sit and relax. The cabin is cozy and has everything. We've recently added more cook-ware and hope to replace the bed soon with one more sturdy. But just as comfortable. My mom and my sister will be your onsite hosts. Our family were some of the first pioneers in Anderson Valley in the early 1800's. Enjoy the hospitality and charm of a warm country atmosphere. Any needs will be catered to while your privacy is respected. My family will go about their business once you're settled in (you'll see them working around the place). If anything is needed they'll be right there. Jackson Family Winery is at the end of our driveway. Directly across the street is the Madrones complex with restaurant, tasting rooms, and accommodations along with the Brambles across the creek; and Goldeneye Winery is also across the highway. Please be careful if you walk and cross the highway. Look both ways then run. Drivers speed there and site distance is minimal. Virtually at the end of our driveway is the tasting room for Domain Anderson. There are several more wineries in the direct vicinity and within walking distance. We're five minutes away from popular Hendy Woods state Park. Little Indian Creek County Park with short hiking in a redwood grove is again, across the highway and can be access by walking down the hill from our property then up Indian Creek Road to the highway. Then of course the drive out to Navarro By The Sea is through a majestic redwood grove and more parks to check out. Or the drive over Greenwood Road, very narrow and curvy about 40 minutes, will take you to the small town of Elk on the coast and beautiful Elk Beach and Cuffy's Cove. If possible, please book ahead for March through September of every year. Our cottage has become very busy and we want to accommodate you. We will take in everyone we can possibly manage. Our cabin is a quiet and private place to come home to after any activities you wish to take in. Due to the difficulty with our Direct TV service availability, we have added a Roku device for those of you who have Netflix, Amazon Prime, or other internet streaming channel accounts. We added an extender to the wifi antenna and it works fine now for personal or streaming purposes. For those of you that enjoy the Dish, we'll continue working on it. August is the month for peaches, apricots, and any nectarines that show up on our trees. The tomatoes have been coming in later. March is beautiful in the valley with the daffodils, narcissus, and lilacs blooming. Indian Creek State Park is just a short walk away and across the highway. A trip to the Greenwood Ridge Road will take you to Hendy Woods State Park just a five minute drive from our house. From Hendy you can access swimming holes in the Navarro River for those interested in cooling off on a hot day. Or drive over the Greenwood Ridge, where more wineries abound, to the quaint town of Elk (formerly Greenwood), and the beautiful Mendocino Coast. From there you can turn north towards the towns of Mendocino and Fort Bragg, or south to Manchester, Point Arena and Gualala. From Philo, take a scenic drive to the end of Highway 128 through the famous redwoods to where the road joins the coastal highway at Navarro Beach, leading to Mendocino and Fort Bragg, or back across the bridge towards Elk.
