Welcome to Shawnigan Woods. Our well-appointed country home is located in the rural community of Shawnigan Lake, just a 50 minute drive north of Victoria, via the ultra-scenic Malahat Drive. Situated at the back of 3 naturally forested acres, the home affords privacy on all sides and with it ~ a sense of calm and retreat. Our Guest Bed/Sitting room has its own private 4-piece Ensuite Bathroom with heated tile floor and extra wide glass door leading out onto a private wrap around deck with views over the natural west coast forest. You will love the luxurious beauty-rest mattress, hotel quality linens, duvet and heavenly comfort memory foam pillows. Get ready for the best sleep of your life with only the birds to wake you up! The room is equipped with a breakfast bar, including; a small fridge, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, and toaster (on request). There is an electric BBQ on the deck, and shared use of an outdoor chest freezer. Coffee and Tea supplies as well as dishes, cutlery, wine glasses, and BBQ utensils are in the room. Dishes may be washed up in the Ensuite bathroom with wash & rinse basins, dish soap, dish towel, dish cloth, and biodegradable dish soap provided. Driving distance to the private schools from our home is as follows: Shawnigan Lake School (5 minute drive) Brentwood College School (10 minute drive) St. John's Academy (8 minute drive) St. Margaret's School for Girls (25 minute drive) The surrounding Shawnigan Lake rural area and Village are fun to explore and if you would like to take local transit the bus route runs very nearby the house for pick-up and drop-off. A 5 minute drive or a 15 minute bicycle ride will take you to Shawnigan Lake Provincial Park where there is an expansive green space for outdoor relaxation and recreation and a nice, clean, swimming beach which has the sun until 4 pm every afternoon. You will walk through a magical old growth forest of cedars and fir to come out into the clearing of this pristine provincial lakeside park. You must not forget a day excursion to see the Koksilah River Provincial Park and the unique and awe-inspiring Kinsol Railway Trestle. Walking over this trestle, which has recently been completely renewed into an expansive pedestrian bridge, you will gaze down on the rapids in the river. When you walk the trestle and cross over to the trail on the other side you will be traversing one of the most picturesque sections of our glorious Trans-Canada Trail. Don't forget shopping and eating! Charming and quaint shopping areas are located close by in Shawnigan Village (4 km) and Cobble Hill Village (8 km). A good size shopping centre is located in Mill Bay (12 km). Here in Mill Bay you will also find a mile long stretch of easy walking beach which has a gorgeous view across the Bay and looks down toward Finlayson Arm. The Village of Cowichan Bay, offer kayak rentals and lots of small cafes and seafood eateries and the town of Duncan with its own very quaint downtown area also has several shopping malls both in town and just outside of town. Cowichan Bay and Duncan are a 20 minute drive N. We like to take our cue from our guests, i.e. on days when we are relaxing in our own home we are happy to spend some time conversing and sharing with our guests. Often however, we will be either working in our home office or working off-site, so we are likely to see you only in the morning and evening as you come and go from the shared parking area, or if you are sitting outside on the front part of your wrap-around deck. A wonderful new restaurant has opened up just down the road from our home. They are offering a great selection of take-away gourmet meals, and in-house dining on their decks and patio overlooking the lake. It is getting awesome reviews from all the locals! The restaurant is called The Lakehouse at Shawnigan Lake. There is a bus-stop for both pick-ups and drop-offs within easy walking distance of the house. Schedules are available on the CVRD web-site. Each morning there are several options heading into Duncan and each afternoon there are several options headed back toward Shawnigan. It's not the fastest way to travel, but it is there for you if you need it. There is also a very good local taxi-cab company called Cobble Hill Taxi. 1. We have security gates which open toward the road, i.e., they open toward your vehicle. Be sure to leave enough room for them to open! 2. We have a steep driveway and it is gravel. In the winter months it can be difficult to drive up the driveway unless you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle and all-weather tires. Please don't hesitate halfway up the driveway! There is lots of room to park at the top. 3. This is a Non-smoking Property, and the Guest Room listing is a Non-Pet Listing. We do not have pets in the main apartment, as is our personal preference, but there may be short or long-stay tenants living in one of our two lower self-contained suites who may have pets. If that is the case, the pets will be leashed when outdoors. 4. We try to minimize all organic and inorganic waste. To this end, we will ask you to place your compost in a compost bin, and your recycling in a recycle bin. Thank You!
