The Bower: quiet, bucolic place in the woods
Write your book, renew with your partner, get away from the hectic pace of life in a safe, rustic place. Our expansive trail system is here for the quiet enjoyment of nature. Bathe yourself in the Carolinian forest. Watch sap suckers feed on sugar berry trees in the canopy outside your window. The Bower is quirky. Eccentric. Walk to the fish pond. Seat yourself under the mushroom. Breathe in the woods. Enjoy the sculptures which adorn Summer Shop. Feel the peace. Dig the night sky. The Bower is connected to a working metal shop where the eclectic artist and family work from time to time. They will respect your privacy, and there may be traffic from time to time. You are welcome to peruse the space and art. (***Thursdays are work days...9am-3pm at the metal studio, so you may hear some quirky people making art!) The Bower began as a telescope platform above a working metal art studio. Star gazing enthusiasts would gather with telescopes above, while the sparks flew below. With the advent of digital dishes, giant aluminum dishes and poles needed to be removed at trailer sites all over town. Lyle hired himself out as a "satellite dish arborist." The bedroom at the Bower is made from a satellite dish. It also has a kitchen with a stove, not a microwave for home cooking, a cozy woodstove and an awesome laundry room. Ants, Millipedes and Spiders and other creepy crawlies are no extra charge. Our space is for the adventuresome, the lovers of nature and for unique experiences. We give you the access code and you are in. You never have to see us. Guests are free to wander the grounds, including the metal shop which adjoins the Bower. Summer Shop gave birth to Moncure Chessworks, and Piedmont Biofuels and is now hard at work during the pandemic to create more for the Chatham Beverage District in Pittsboro as well as Little Pond Farm and other fun things for the Bower and Bunkey (the other AirBNB on site). Our neighborhood is called The Burrow and comes complete with farm, ponds, trails, a graveyard and quirky neighbors. Directly behind the Bower, a working and active metal shop is in use. The artist respects your privacy and you are welcome to peruse the shop and art. You can park right outside the Bower. Public transportation is not available at this time. We do have an electric car charger! We have onsite farm to fork from Chef Zachary of Little Pond Farm. For inquiry, let us know. Local flower bouquets are available from Bouquets by Hope. Just let us know! We are very close to Pittsboro (6 miles away). Raleigh is 25 minutes away. Chapel Hill is 30 minutes. Southern Pines is 45 minutes. We try as hard as possible to be eco-friendly. That means using non-toxic cleaners, and bath items. We have composting and recycling. Our furnishings are from antique fairs or gently used items...shabby chic. We very much want to preserve our beautiful natural habitat. The Bower is clustered amongst 2 other houses. A farm is down the road. You might find goats there amidst kale, asparagus and garlic growing.
