Jerome Local's Retreat
When in Jerome . . .relax perched on the top floor apartment of this historic miner's boarding house. It’s filled with natural light & spectacular views of the Verde Valley, Sedona & Flagstaff. Lounge inside or on the wrap-around porch. Quaint rustic accommodations are perfect for a relaxing or romantic get away. Walk into town to enjoy the wineries, galleries, restaurants & shops. This once abandoned mining town has been reclaimed by musicians, artists & all kinds of good spirits. The apartment is the top floor of a boarding house built by a carpenter and miner who worked for the local mining company. When it was built in 1917, there was a housing shortage due to the influx of the 15,000 miners working nearby. The historic home has preserved the original wood floors, claw foot tub, and wainscot. The builder’s design was simple craftsman. We’ve added some modern touches to make it more comfortable while remaining true to its era and rustic charm. The home sits on the mountain high enough to see magnificent mountain views from dawn until nightfall. And our small town offers the dark skies that reveal the stars at night. Parking is a rare feature in Jerome. This space includes one parking space in a flat flagstone parking area below the house. I prefer to give our guests space, but I am readily available by text or phone if you have any questions. The Neighborhood- This space is tucked in a fairly quiet neighborhood in the mountainside town of Jerome. We have incredible views of the mountains during the day and stars at night. Depending on your pace, it’s a five to ten minute walk into the Main Street area of town where all the restaurants, shops and wineries are. Bring good walking shoes. The town is fun to explore and we recommend doing it on foot. Of course, you can always drive into town, park, and explore from there. If you prefer to drive from the apartment, we recommend you head south on Center Street and follow the curve until it meets the main road AZ State Route 89A; take a right and it will lead you to the Main Street Loop. Be aware that some parking is metered. There is also a town shuttle that runs through the commercial district on a limited schedule. In town parking and shuttle information is available on the Town of Jerome website. To walk to and from town, we recommend you stay on school street to avoid getting lost. We have flashlights to help you navigate the historic winding streets at night. Streetlights are a rarity, so it can get really dark. The Seasons-We sometimes get snow in the winter and early spring, so please check the weather conditions. Watching a summer monsoon storm roll across the mountains is pretty spectacular. No smoking or candles anywhere on the property please. Thank you.
