We also have a binder in the house filled with activities and map. Hiking is one of the highlights on the island. We enjoy Beech Mountain, Acadia Mountain, St. Sauveur, and Flying Mountain. These mountains all have several different trails to choose from. We often choose to make a loop hike. These trails are all a short distance from our house, just on the other side of Southwest Harbor. Acadia, St. Sauveur, and Flying all have great views of Somes Sound. Beech Mountain has great views of Echo Lake from the Canada Cliffs trail. For hikes closer to Bar Harbor, we'd recommend Penobscot. On a warm day it is fun to take the Deer Brook trail. At the intersection, you can take a quick up towards Sargent and swim in Sargent Pond. From there we will head south along the ridge towards the Jordan Pond House. Once at the Pond House we will reward ourselves with some yummy popovers. For some great walks along the shore we recommend Wonderland and Ship Harbor. Both are just about a mile and a half from the house. We highly recommend biking on the carriage trails. One of our favorites is taking a picnic and biking around Eagle Lake. Park in the Eagle Lake Parking area and head to the west first. Along your path you will see the trail marker for Conner's Nubble. This is a great spot for lunch and a view of the lake. Swimming in the lake is very refreshing here. There are the rock at Echo Lake (located across from Acadia Mnt). There is also Echo Lake beach. You can also take a nice walk along the edge of Long Pond (Long Pond Trail) to Duck Rocks for a swim. Sand Beach and the Beach at Seal Harbor are beautiful and fun. There is also a half sand and half rock beach just across the harbor from us. I will include a map in the binder. Some of our favorite restaurants are: Thurston's (located in Bass Harbor). They have some of the beST lobsters and steamers! Check out Beal's (located in Southwest Harbor) for amazing lobster rolls. Sips (SWH) has a great breakfast menu. The Common Good (SWH) is open for popovers for breakfast. Gott's (between Bass Harbor and SWH) has great ice cream. Mount Desert Ice Cream (Bar Harbor) Side Street Cafe (Bar Harbor) Reel Pizza (Bar Harbor) Hopefully this will give you a few ideas. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. Feel free to check out the free Island Explorer for getting around the island. There are 4 bedrooms upstairs. The two children's rooms are connected by a Jack and Jill bathroom. The adult rooms are on either side of twin bed room/ bunk bed room. I.e. King bedroom (waterviews) occupants walk through children's room to access upstairs bath. Both King bedrooms are private. The upstairs can be accessed by two separate staircases. One leading directly to the master and one leading into the bunk bedroom.
