Estefanitas de Casa Flores is an authentic adobe shotgun style home built by Manuel Flores and his three brothers. The home lays on land acquired for services rendered with the Union Army in the Battle at Glorieta located between Santa Fe and Las Vegas New Mexico in 1862.Over the next five years the brothers built a 12 room, shotgun style, southwestern home. In the following generations of family two additional wings were built that comprise the 24 room home that it is today. Simultaneously, three blocks away at the Plaza Vieja district, merchants were bringing retail business and commercial trade from points east and south such as St. Louis and Mexico. With them, they also brought a unique architectural Victorian style reminiscent of the classic structures of the East Coast. With over 900 abobe and Victorian structures on the National Historic Register in Las Vegas New Mexico, Casa Flores stands out as a classic example of the Southwestern Territorial Adobe design style. It features original hand stripped vigas (wood beams) harvested from the local land during original construction. The local cultural points of interest include walking a few short blocks to the historic Plaza Vieja and New Mexico Highlands University. A short five minute drive to Montezuma brings the Armand Hammer United World College of the American West occupying a historic Queen Ann styled structure resembling a castle nestled in the hillside.
