The locals once called it "The City" Dark Harbour is its name. Enjoy peace, serenity and beautiful sunsets! This cabin is nestled around the bend on the beach of Dark Harbour Pond. Fully accessible by vehicle when the tide is down. When the water rises you can enjoy complete solitude or throw the kayak in and go for a paddle. This is an "off the grid" cabin on the beach in Dark Harbour, Grand Manan. There are 2 bedrooms and a sleeping couch to accommodate up to 7 people comfortably. We have recently installed a rainwater collection tank although there is Fresh Mountain spring water flowing near by. It's rustic, cozy and beautiful! There is no power. Hence the rustic nature of this location. There are however, battery operated and solar charged lights, which are limited during cloudy and overcast days. *We are continually working towards comforts of home to serve you better. But for now the beauty and serenity of this place will be enough to make your trip to Grand Manan the most memorable vacation spot yet! Please make your self at home and enjoy all that Dark Harbour has to offer! The cabin is for you to enjoy. Enjoy the view from the lower or upper deck, get your camera ready and pour a glass of wine; the sunsets here are world renowned! Brenda may be available to give you a warm welcome, as she has in the past. If she's not able there is a journal/check-in book with all the information you should need during your stay. The book and key are to be left on the table when you check out, please DO NOT lock the door. It is advisable to engage with someone during your stay for details on the tide times and how to gauge the accessibility. Please reach out to me if you have any questions. The road to Dark Harbour is winding with quick turns and very high cliffs. Please take care whilst driving. We are just 5 minutes to the convenience / liquor store in the village of Castalia. About 10 minutes from the Ferry landing. All other sites and locations are within 30mins away. The island is only 21 miles long so getting around is a piece of cake. You can travel to our location by car, mind the sometimes "out of place" rocks and the ropes that tie up the dulsing dorys. They are easy to drive over, just proceed with caution. Have a passenger step on them for you or move the "out of place" rocks if you are concerned. As you see in the photos I drive my 2012 Accent there all the time. It is VERY low to the ground, I've never had a problem. I drive with common sense and caution. Once you arrive the tides are the only other thing to consider. We have the highest tides in the world sometimes reaching as high as 50'! This property is safe away from the tidal splurge, and a vehicle can park with out being soaked by sea water. ;) The high tide happens twice a day every 12 hrs or so. At the 6 hour mark you will experience a low tide. Again, twice a day. The tide in Dark Harbour Pond is set slightly differently when the tide is high outside the Pond it will be at its highest roughly 2.5hrs after the time the tidal calendar suggests. There will be no accessibility to or from camp within a 4-5 hr window during the flood tide. It is recommended to park your vehicle on the hill/roadway behind the camp and use the beach for walking access or the trail beside the camp. It is treacherous and not for the faint of heart. There is a rope for hand rail, be careful. Your adventure awaits!
