The Byre at Piper’s Pond

The Byre at Piper's Pond is our modest farm situated on 80 acres in Bristol, Maine on the Pemaquid Peninsula. The apartment is separated from the main house and has privacy and room for guests to enjoy the area. It is a comfortable rustic contemporary home and setting. We are located a 10 minute drive to Damariscotta. Pemaquid Peninsula is home to the historic Pemaquid Lighthouse, the University of Maine Darling Marine Center, the Old Fort Henry, Pemaquid Beach and beautiful hiking trails. The apartment is two stories with a kitchen and one and a half baths. There is one Full size bed, one King and two Twin beds. There is parking, use of the grounds, grill, lobster pot, and other conveniences. Bristol is a nice day trip to Camden, Rockland and Boothbay among other Maine mid-coast towns. Enjoy a ferry ride to Monhegan Island or a Puffin Boat Tour from New Harbor. We are building a small, diversified working farm and we have hens, a rooster, geese and Indian Runner Ducks onsite. Our Scottish Highland cattle herd is now up to six including BYR Henry the 8th who was born on the farm June 4, 2021. We also have five Mangalista pigs. All livestock have free range in an 18 acre enclosed silvopasture. The apartment is located adjacent to the barn. We also have two young Border Collies and a mature German Short Haired Pointer. They are all friendly, however, we like to let guest know ahead of time. We have decided to reopen the apartment year round. We are finding that with the pandemic and more people working from home guests are finding the apartment a great place to work and find a change of scenery. Our WiFi is available to guests and we just had fiber optic internet installed in July 2021. The area is beautiful in all seasons and if you enjoy the outdoors the property is fun to x-country ski or snowshoe on when we have snow and if the pond freezes without snow people enjoy ice skating. We have extra snowshoes that guests may use. In warmer weather there are nearby trails and walking through our fields and woods. Guests have full access to the apartment, the pond and walking/hiking around the land. Helen and Jeffrey work onsite and are available if guests would like to use the grills, lobster pot, kayak, snowshoes or other outdoor gear that we might have available. We offer guests the privacy they need, however, we enjoy meeting people and Jeffrey and I both work from home and are available to guests. We have a keypad entrance for easy self check in. We love the Round Pond Coffee Shop and the Granite Hall Store in Round Pond (2 miles away). If you have children, the Granite Hall Store has a penny candy counter. You can purchase basic food and supplies at the King Ro store. There is a large full service grocery store in nearby Damariscotta and a local full service grocer on the peninsula in New Harbor. With the downturn in tourism some establishments are cutting hours after Labor Day or closing. That said, many year round restaurants and stores remain open. We are happy to provide more information about the area during your stay. Starting in October 2021 through March 2022 we are lifting the week requirement and have relaxed it to a 3 night minimum stay. We will continue to offer the weekly and monthly discounts. We still adhere to the COVID cleaning protocols.
