This bright and sunny room overlooking Broadway has two twins beds, a nice-sized closet and dresser, night tables with lamps and a great big space for an air mattress to put two kids. FAMILIES ONLY! Now in its 19th year, this family share offers an affordable Fair Harbor stay with like-minded families. Do your own thing, or share meals and kid-watching! No singles or couples, sorry! If you've visited Fair Harbor, you know the big yellow house next to the post office. And if you have been to Fair Harbor with kids, you know that they dream of being right in town! Our kids love being right in town -- they love the freedom of running in a pack to get ice cream or pizza or candy, or to look for hermit crabs at the bay. And there are always other kids around with this share, so there is always a way to feel independent while vacationing as a family. Your family will have a private bedroom with two twin beds, sheets and towels supplied. Air mattress available. You'll have full access to the kitchen, with space in the fridge and cabinets set aside just for your stuff, a big living room, a dining room, two shared bathrooms, outdoor shower and huge deck for outdoor dining. Most families who stay here end up eating semi-together, taking turns at the stove and sometimes even sharing dishes. More often than not, the kids band together to paint seashells, and everyone wanders over to the dock for sunset, grown-ups with grown-up drinks in hand. Sometimes families go to the beach together, and sometimes everyone does his/her own thing. And don't forget Wednesday night movies at the fire house! Rainy days are still fun -- those mean Sea Girt library or stay at home to use the years-collected movies, puzzles and games. Guests interact with each other a lot. You are taking just one bedroom in a four-bedroom house with other families, unless you decide to rent more than one room On the other hand, you can completely do your own thing and no one will mind! Fire Island is a PARADISE just 1.5 hours from the city. You can take the train and the ferry or drive to the ferry. What you can't take is your car! And that's why Fair Harbor is a paradise for families. Your kid can run around without any worry about cars or nefarious doings. There's just one restaurant, just one pizza shop, one place to get ice cream and candy, one wine shop and one grocery store. Deliveries from Long Island fish shops and grocery stores are also available. Everyone bikes and walks everywhere! Take a train or drive to Bay Shore and then enjoy the short ferry ride over. Spring for a water taxi to visit other towns if you're feeling too lazy to bike! towns if you're feeling too lazy to bike! We do offer shorter stays of just two nights starting three weeks before an open date -- until that point, we have a minimum stay of five nights. This rental is not for everyone -- it's a homey, communal place to lay your head and maybe make some family friends. Make sure you understand the sharing nature of The Big Yellow House before you commit!
