Regarding COVID, while cases are dropping, there is still a slight risk. Clearly, it's up to us as individuals to make good choices for the health and vitality of our families and for each other in the greater human collective. RETREAT COTTAGE DESCRIPTION: ‘The Yuba River Cottage Retreat’ is located high on a ridge overlooking Penn Valley towards the west. This makes it perfect for incredible sunsets and dark skies provide unobstructed celestial stargazing on clear nights (you provide the telescope). It is about 8 miles from Bridgeport St Park on the South Yuba River. We offer a private and cozy Retreat Cottage to enjoy the display and explore the South Yuba River, or just nestle in. A perfect restorative creative space for artists and writers, we have incredible views and unobstructed stargazing on clear nights. We are located close to the grocery store, (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) min. from the South Yuba River, w/easy access to adventures in the Tahoe NF and the historic Gold towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley. The Cottage is a cedar paneled forest haven with an open floor plan living room and kitchen with exposed beam ceilings. It is separated from the main house by a patio deck with a BBQ. This area is available for your use. This retreat is on a private 11 acres property of foothill forest and is a great base camp to explore a variety of Nevada County adventures. We are 15 minutes from the South Yuba River Bridgeport State Park. The towns of Nevada City and Grass Valley are (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) minutes away and renowned for their Gold Rush history, diverse restaurants, and shops, as well as lively cultural music, dance, and theater activities. The High Sierra Mountains are about 1 -1.5 hours away. Once you book you can check out our Guidebook for more suggestions. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: COVID HOSPITALITY The following is our plan for managing the Yuba River Retreat Cottage, specifically during the pandemic for the upcoming months. Please forgive the deluge of information ... much of this would have been imparted in other ways. Please know that we have a flexible cancellation policy, which allows for a full refund of up to 24 hours prior to your reservation check-in date if a changing situation warrants the cancellation of your visit to Penn Valley. We are following the strict Airbnb cleaning protocol so that our guests can feel confident that they are entering a COVID-free space. While there is still a slight risk, we will have minimal contact with you during your stay. Upon checking out, we will ask you to take all of your trash and recycling to the outside garbage shed and place all linen, towels, blankets, dishtowel, etc. in the large black plastic bag provided. Take care of yourself and those you love. Exact location information and driving directions are provided after a booking is confirmed. The kitchen has a full selection of cooking utensils, a Viking professional chef’s range, and oven, full fridge, and dishwasher. Other amenities: full bathroom, stacking washer/dryer, full-length porch, outdoor sitting area, BBQ, wifi, and a pet-friendly lawn (with poop patrol). There is WiFi, and a big screen T.V. without cable access, but HDMI capable. You provide your own HDMI cord, if desired. Please we ask that you limit your streaming movies to two a night, in order to preserve our data capacity for all guests. The porches and patio areas attached to the Cottage are common space for guests and hosts alike. The outdoor areas around the main house are private. Children may access the playhouse with permission. The use of our pool in the summer is allowed by separate agreement and received permission only. Know that it is heated only by the sun. Children under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult. Noise is to be kept to a reasonable level and the privacy of our personal space is to be respected at all times. Thank you for your consideration. Hosts Virginia and Elizabeth live in the big house east of the Cottage if you have any questions, (along with dogs Charlie and Moose) just send a text, or call. Quiet time is from 9:00 pm to 8:00 am. This covers music and loud noises, however, this does not restrict normal conversational tones in the common areas. ** While we believe one of the joys of Airbnb is meeting new and interesting people, unfortunately, we are not able to socialize because of COVID. The surrounding area is renowned for its diverse restaurants and shops, as well as lively cultural arts, music, dance, and theater scene. Additionally, we are 10 minutes from the South Yuba Bridgeport State Park for fun river play. Our retreat celebrates the incredible clean rushing water, granite boulders and teal swimming holes of the South Yuba River. The area is a nature lover's paradise accessing the 871,495 acres Tahoe National Forest with hiking and biking trails. One of the best trails of the South Yuba River State Park in the Bridgeport area is on the north side of the river, (opposite side from the Rangers office), upstream from the Pleasant Valley Road bridge. This trail is wheelchair accessible. They have guided tours and special programs throughout the summer. The Gold County Stage local bus line runs a regular schedule on weekdays, with a stop 5 minutes away. COTTAGE PROTOCOL (see the white binder House Manual found in the Cottage for further details) COVID HOSPITALITY ** We ask that you please were a mask during any face to face exchanges with us, the hosts. We will do the same. You do not have to wear a mask while in the Cottage, in the outdoor seating areas, or as you walk to and from your car. ** Also, to reduce the risk for our cleaning, at the end of your visit, we will require you to take all of your trash to the outdoor garbage shed and to place all of your linen (even if you did not use it) into the big black garbage bag found behind the tea basket. We appreciate your understanding. YOUR RESERVATION ~ You will not be sharing the Cottage with any other guests who are not included in your group. ~ Please understand that we do not accept reservations from anyone under the legal age of majority at 18-years-old. Reservation must be held by persons over 18-years-old. ~ We DO require a valid government ID from the individual who is responsible for the reservation. CHECK-IN / CHECK-OUT ~ Our standard arrival check-in time is 3:00 pm and departure check-out time is no later than 10:30 am. ~ We expect that you will keep us informed of your expected ETA for your check-in, and keep us up-to-date if that estimate changes. If your check-in time is after 9:00 pm, we will arrange for you to self-check-in. ~ While we are glad to make other arrangements, but you will need our permission for any other times of check-in or check-out. Please arrange ahead of your arrival or departure. All times are Pacific Time. PRICING & ADDITIONAL FEES ~ The nightly price shown in our Airbnb listing for the Yuba River Retreat Cottage is calculated for up to 2 people staying in the main bedroom only and includes the use of the main bedroom w/ 1 queen bed; full kitchen, standard bathroom with a shower/tub, and W/D. You will have the entire place to your selves. ~ You will need to indicate the number of people staying in the Cottage at the time of booking. There is an additional $5 per/person fee for every person beyond the 2 people included. Children under the age of 2 are NOT included in the number of guests. ~ If you bring in additional guests after you arrive, other than the number of people indicated at the time of the reservation, then you will still be charged for the additional guests via the 'Request Money' function. SECOND BEDROOM ~ There is a second bedroom available with another queen bed. If you intend to use both bedrooms, then you'll need to inform us ahead of time. There will be an additional one-time extra $30 cleaning fee for setting up and cleaning of the second room. ~ If at the time of your reservation, you do not book the second room, and then during your stay, you end up using the second bedroom, then you will still be charged the additional cleaning fee via the 'Request Money' function. ~ We have tried to keep dogs out of the second bedroom taking into consideration the comfort of our future guests with dog allergies. Please respect this request if you bring your pets to stay with you. VEHICLES ~ There is parking near the Cottage for 1 -2 cars. Please let us know if you plan to bring more than one vehicle onto the property, we do have some room for parking for additional vehicles if pre-arranged. ~ You will receive specific driving directions at the time of your reservation. SAFETY ~ The road up to our house well paved, but it is narrow with two steep turns that could become difficult to navigate if the road is wet. Please let us know if you have any concerns about your vehicle's capacity in this situation. We will make alternate arrangements to ease any concerns. ~ We require that you please provide us with the names of all the guests who will be staying in the cottage, including the names of any children or pets. ~ Also, we request to be informed if you'll be having any guests visiting with you and not staying the night. This is no problem, we just need to know who is on the property for all of our security. ~ Understand that this is a steep wildland property with potential hazards. You are completely responsible for your own actions and for the supervision and safety of your children or pets who will be staying or visiting with you. PETS (you will receive these details upon the confirmation of your reservation) ~ We request to be told in advance if you wish to bring your pets. We are very pet-friendly, but we do have some protocol we wish for our pet-owning guests to agree to before staying in the Cottage. ~ We do have one shy dog, Lola. who lives on the property. She may come to visit and will try to convince you that she is starving, but please do not feed them any treats. She has sensitive digestive systems. ~ Additionally, if you have an aversion to dogs, please let us know. We will help mitigate our fur friend. DURING YOUR STAY ~ Please be aware that the cottage features open beam ceilings, so the pony walls do not fully enclose the bedrooms or bathroom above the closets. Noises can travel. ~ We have a big-screen TV, but no cable service, and only a collection of old random videos. You are welcome to bring your own DVDs to watch on our equipment if you want more viewing options. The television does have HDMI input capacity. ~ You may use the BBQ grill on the deck, but we ask that you, please scrape the grill clean and turn off the propane when you are finished. The porch areas are common areas. ~ As host, we can happily provide information about outdoor adventures, restaurant suggestions, and cultural activities you might consider during your stay.
