Spacious Family-Friendly House on Lake Mitchell

Open and spacious, family-friendly house on the south side of Lake Mitchell has private frontage and a shallow, sandy bottom, perfect for all ages. Fenced yard, fire pit, and beach area are Lakeside, and a huge "back" yard is perfect for lawn games. Snowmobile trails, skiing, and public land are all nearby. A 4k TV with cable and streaming is provided. Summer rentals are 7 days, Fri-Fri. We stay Fri-Sun+, and plan to open Mon-Thurs rentals. Feel free to inquire about mid-week rentals. Lake Fun: Lake Mitchell and Cadillac provide year-round fun. Some of the best ice-fishing is right outside our house. We are about 10 - 15 minutes from Caberfae and just a few minutes from snow-mobile trails. Fall provides a beautiful view with evergreens providing a backdrop for beautiful, colorful fall foliage framing the lake. Both Fall and Spring allow for great fishing with cooler water temps. And of course, summers can't be beat. The shore is shallow, with a solid sandy bottom, allowing even small children to enjoy the lake. There is a beach area, and we provide plenty of sand toys. Paddle boards, lake toys / floats / mats are also included. There is a hammock for afternoon naps. And the fire pit is perfect for s'mores at sunset. Outside: Idlewind is the perfect family retreat. There are trees on both side for privacy, and 50 feet of sandy-bottom frontage. There are toys and games, such as corn hole, Kan Jam, and sand toys. There is a fire pit with seating. You can use the firewood stocked on the side of the house or, in the rare event I run out, more is available for sale nearby. We offer both a charcoal grill and a wood pellet grill. In the "back yard", there is a large grassy area perfect for lawn games. You will find that there is plenty of space for your friends and family to park, play, relax, eat, and sleep. Inside: On the first floor, there are two dining areas and three separate living areas. One bedroom / living area and the main dining area overlook the lake. There is a 4K TV with cable and Netflix. There are instructions for everything in a welcome binder. The kitchen was updated in September 2018 and is fully stocked. It has a nice cook top and double oven. You can easily make Thanksgiving dinner for a large family! There are also two portable griddles perfect for pancakes and bacon. We include coffee, creamer, sugar, a variety of tea, and hot cocoa. The refrigerator has a ton of condiments, salad dressings, jam, and maple syrup. The spice cabinet has salt, pepper, rubs, and other seasonings. Just bring your perishables! You are welcome to any other staples in the cabinets (olive oil, balsamic vinegar, oatmeal, pancake mix), but we can't guarantee there will be anything there! There are plenty of bathing towels (brand new in Sept. 2018), as well as a laundry room. The downstairs bathroom is large, and includes a tub. The upstairs has an additional door at the top of the stairs - perfect for those that want to go to bed early or sleep in while others are having fun downstairs! There is a small bathroom with a stand-up shower at the end of the hall. There are four bedrooms upstairs. The mermaid room is small, and perfect for a little girl, but we have also put our grown adult friends in there. It has a beautiful lake view! Across from the mermaid room is a good-sized room with a queen bed. This room also has extra linens in the cabinet. In one closet are a box fan, extra pillows and sheets. In the other are two twin memory foam mattresses. The twin mattresses can fit in any of the other bedrooms except the mermaid room. The master bedroom has a beautiful view of the lake, and is spacious. The last bedroom upstairs has two twin beds. All bedrooms except the mermaid room have ceiling fans. Seasonal Note: The dock and boat lifts are typically removed mid-September and put in the water mid-May. With advance notice it may be possible to install or remove these sooner or later. Boat lifts are stored in the "back yard" towards the road and the dock is stacked in a corner of the fenced lake yard. We are mindful to keep these items out of the way of our guests and their view! Allergy note: Although we have our home professionally cleaned for guests, our pets do accompany us to the cottage, especially during the summer. If you have a pet allergy, please come prepared. Access is by electronic keypad on the side door. I will program a code which will unlock the deadbolt. If there are any issues with the keypad I can open the cottage remotely or direct you to a nearby keybox with back-up keys. We live about an hour and a half from the Lake, but we are available by phone, text, or email. On seldom occasions, depending on bookings, you may see me mowing lawn when you arrive on Sunday. The south side is the place to be! We have both the sunrise and the sunset, and you can occasionally see the Northern Lights! A shallow boat launch is conveniently located next door and is great for getting your snowmobile or shanty on the water, but not so great for boats (go to the "real" boat launch a mile or so away for anything bigger than a jet ski or small fishing boat, or a pontoon with a crank down trailer). There is a business across the street that, while technically a gas and convenience store, would be more aptly termed a liquor and homemade ice-cream shop! Cadillac offers four seasons of fun! We are conveniently located about 10-15 minutes from Caberfae ski area and the Manistee National Forest. There are snow mobile trails everywhere. We are minutes from the White Pine Trail, which is great for running, biking, and snow mobiling! A fun playground and nature preserve are five minutes away. Downtown Cadillac is less than 10 minutes away by car and has fun festivals and entertainment almost every weekend in summer. You can also boat there and tie up at the public dock! Lake Mitchell connects to Lake Cadillac through a fun little canal, offering about 4,000 acres of lake altogether. There is a boat-up restaurant that is fun for kids. On-site parking for at least 4 vehicles with additional parking at the adjacent boat launch. Feel free to message us with any questions! The house has A/C, but in the three summers we have been here, we have turned it on once. The tree cover, lake breezes, and fans keep the house cool. The lake is shallow for hundreds of feet out front, which is great for swimming and keeping boats at a distance. It is plenty deep for a powerboat to idle out to the all-sports lakes, just keep that motor up until you reach suitable depth! I have an auger "pin" I can make available for mooring your boat. Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac produce pike, bass, and walleye. Snow Removal: I have a snow removal service that clears the driveway, parking area, and walkway to the entrance. Snow removal is triggered after an event causing 4" or more of accumulation since the last removal. So, snow will usually be removed, but there may be occasions where there is a few inches of snow on the driveway and walkway. A snow shovel is provided. The driveway is straight and flat, so a little bit of snow should not present an issue for you.
