Your cozy private bedroom is decorated in a green theme with all hotel amenities, including a private bathroom across the hall, comfy bedding, TV with Netflix, writing desk, white noise machine, blackout curtains, and fast Wi-Fi. Free parking, 5-minute drive to Metro stop. Snacks, coffee, and tea in shared kitchen space. Plenty of disinfecting sprays in all shared spaces. Long-term guests welcome! We love to have all the comforts of home when we travel—hopefully with a few luxury amenities—so we have tried to create our ideal cozy bedroom nook for our own guests. The comfy medium-firm mattress is covered in soft bedding and a variety of pillows. We've also just added a small desk and chair in case you need to get some work done. There is a white noise sound machine with built-in USB port for phone charging, a bedside fan, wall-mounted TV with Roku (and Netflix), blackout curtains, and extra blankets. The private bathroom across the hall is clean and tidy with fresh linens, a high pressure shower head, bathtub, makeup removal wipes, and hair dryer. The shared kitchen has a filtered water dispenser and an electric tea kettle. We have a wide variety of tea and a coffee maker. There is a dedicated area with a bunch of breakfast foods for guests including snack bars, oatmeal, granola, and fruit. There is plenty of parking available on the street right in front of the house. We are here to make your visit as pleasant as possible so let us know if you have any questions! Guests have access to the main level of our home, with exclusive use of the guest bedroom and the bathroom. To get to the spare room, you walk through the living room and by the kitchen. Both of these areas are shared with us. We are happy to share our common areas with you if you would like, especially the couch and kitchen table. If you would like to cook in our kitchen, please just let us know. Our bedroom is upstairs and we both get up early (before 6am) to head to DC for work. We try to be as quiet as possible when getting ready in the mornings. The only other residents of the house (besides the cat) are our tenants in the basement, who are generally very quiet as well and have their own separate entrance. If we have any other guests, we will always let you know. We are happy to offer tips for getting around and things to do in DC, as well as the Maryland suburbs. We live here and it's not a huge house, so you will probably see us during the weekday evenings and on the weekends. You are welcome to hang out or retreat to your room, whatever works best for your style and your trip. We may even offer to share some dinner or homemade baked goods. Dave is an excellent baker! :) East Riverdale is a quaint working class area just far enough from DC to have plenty of space, a quiet atmosphere, and lots of trees. Our street is a little narrow, so the street parking can fill up, but we have never had an issue with guests finding a space. There is a large international supermarket a couple blocks away. A little farther off there is also a bowling alley, Mexican bakery (panaderia), and taco place (tacqueria). Parking: street parking is available right outside our door. Unfortunately, we do not offer off-street parking for Airbnb guests, but there is never an issue with finding parking. Metro: There are several ways to get into DC. College Park metro station (Green Line) is the closest one (6 minute drive or 30 minute walk). The next closest station is New Carrolton (Orange Line). The cost to park at each of these stations is $5.20 per day. The metro fare to ride into DC runs between $4 and $6. Lyft or Uber: Taking a ride share to the College Park metro station should cost less than $7.00. The cost of a ride share to New Carrolton is $13.00. A ride into DC costs between $18.00 and $30.00, depending on your destination and the time of day. Buses: The bus system is accessible, but relatively unreliable. Be prepared for occasional waits of up to 20 minutes. That being said, busses stop along both Riverdale Rd. and Kenilworth Ave. with service to all nearby metro stations, the University of Maryland, and other local destinations. You can find bus route information on a few mobile apps, including NextBus and DC Metro Transit. Driving: Driving is the easiest way to get to our house, but we usually don’t recommend driving into DC due to congestion and expensive parking... However, on the weekends it's much more manageable! We are a married same-sex couple with a clean and (mostly) quiet cat. We are open-minded, friendly, and welcoming of all. Both of us grew up in Colorado, so Western hospitality is in our blood. We want guests to feel like they are visiting old friends. As such, we expect that you treat us with kindness and respect our space. We are usually happy to share if you have special requests, but please ask before using. Please no smoking or drug use.
