Cozy, 2BR lake-side retreat and outdoor oasis
Our cozy, family friendly and completely remodeled lake house enjoys modern conveniences with private lake access and quick access to Boston (only 45 mins!). The vacation getaway is located on Lost Lake in beautiful Groton, MA bordering serene conservation land on 2 sides and facing a small private beach with dock. The location offers a balance of natural beauty with a convenience to amenities allowing you to get away from the fast paced city life but return at your leisure! Inside: Our home was completely remodeled in 2017 and is essentially a new house with new kitchen appliances, revamped electrical/plumbing system, new flooring throughout and updated bathroom. The house was designed to maximize a smaller footprint with an open concept, cathedral ceiling, smaller bedrooms and easy access to the outdoors. Wall to wall windows provide relaxing lake views and the kitchen faces conservation land with a pretty cove teeming with wildlife. While smaller, the house encourages family and friend interaction as well as spending time enjoying the outdoors. This is not the place to come if everyone wants to go in a separate room to watch TV or play on an iPad! The home is equipped with high speed WiFi and a 55” flat screen TV to enjoy movies, sports or that favorite TV show. The master bedroom has new French doors opening up to the living room offering lake views (the perfect way to wake up). Play & relax in the lake, then cook in a modern kitchen or grill on the deck. Outside: There is a nice beach at the water's edge where you can listen to the waves beating against the sand and rocks and watch ducks, geese and swans (last year we had a family frequent the dock). There are two fire pits: one on the private sandy beach and the other closer to the home and woods. Up above at the house, is a new deck overlooking the lake where you can watch boats on weekends in the summer and ice fishing in the winter. It is generally peaceful but we do have respectful neighbors on both sides as you face the lake (one of which is rarely there but for an occasional weekend drop by in the summer and almost never spends the nights). While the natural beauty of the location is undeniable, please understand that this is not a wilderness retreat - there are often boats on the lake and neighbors enjoying the lake - especially on summer weekends. Guests will have access to the beach (with table and beach chairs), deck (with grill and furniture), fire pit area and canoe with life vests. We also have a standard canoe with life vests however to use it you must have prior approval and sign a waiver. Walk-in entrance, which includes the kitchen, dining room, living room, 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. In the living room we have a cozy couch with views of the lake, a large flat screen TV with sound system, cable, Netflix, DVD player, DVD's and WiFi access. The place is yours for full enjoyment and privacy. We vacate the premises and communicate by email, texting and phone. Contact us in case of emergency as we live in the area and can assist if needed. Located in desirable Groton (made famous by the prestigious Lawrence Academy) the home is situated on an over-200 acre fully recreational lake called Lost Lake that feels like it belongs in serene northern NH. Easily accessible by 495, Route 2 or Route 3 with quick access to Boston (45 mins), Nashua NH (20 mins) and Worcester (40 mins). Our neighborhood is very quiet and residential, most guests end up spending relaxing days by the lake swimming, relaxing on the beach or watersports on the lake. The maximum depth of the lake is slightly over 30 feet, but average depth is less than 10 feet and there is a larger, town beach a short walk around the cove or a 2 minute canoe ride. If you get the bug to go out, there is so much to do just a short drive away (5-10 minutes to most destinations): 5 Minutes Away: Shaw's grocery store and Johnson’s Restaurant and Dairy Bar (amazing ice cream) 10 Minutes Away: The town of Groton, with its great restaurants including Gibbet Hill Grill (one of the best restaurants in the area); Filho’s Cucina; and Salt & Light Cafe Bistro. - Brand new shopping center with a deluxe movie theatre 15 Minutes Away - Nashoba Valley Ski Area with its skiing, tubing, Blues'N'Brewfest, Nashoba Valley Winery - Kimball Farm Game & Entertainment Center - Mini Golf - Parlee Farms for great apple and pumpkin picking plus great food! - The Butterfly Place (amazing collection of butterflies) - History in Lexington & Concord including: North Bridge, Walden Pond State Reservation, Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. If you enjoy hiking, you have many choices: Rocky Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, Nashoba Brook Wildlife Sanctuary, Gibbet Hill Barn and Trails. Additionally, we are close to Fort Devens and Nashua NH and tax free shopping. OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES (More details will be provided with our welcome packet of all the options for your travel planning needs): - Golfing: Red Tail Golf Club, Shaker Hills Country Club; Nabnasset Lake Country Club, Groton Country Club, Vesper Country Club - Skiing: Nearby: Nashoba Valley Ski Area, Wachusett Mountain Ski Area; close to NH and VT - Fishing: If you like to fish, Lost Lake is home to some of the best fishing in the area and is stocked with ample numbers of rainbow, brown and/or brook trout every spring, and usually in the fall as well. Surveys indicate that at least nine species of warm water fish are present: largemouth bass, chain pickerel, yellow perch, bluegill, pumpkinseed, brown bullhead, yellow bullhead, golden shiner and creek chubsucker. Guests often fish from the shore and several have gone fishing on the lake in our canoe. Our section of the lake is the deepest (over 30ft) so we have some of the best trout fishing in the lake right out front. Trout are widespread in the early spring, but tend to concentrate in the deeper holes as water temperature increases. Bass can be found hiding in the abundant structure and vegetation, mostly in the upper and central basins, and despite fairly heavy fishing pressure, many nice fish are available. Bass fishermen have the best luck in early and late summer (and early and late in the day) when recreational boat traffic is reduced. This is also an excellent ice-fishing pond. The yellow perch are abundant and can be easily jigged due to the shallow water. Good bass and pickerel are frequently taken on tip-ups. The lake is filled with coves and natural protection offering endless locations to find your prized catch. Use the canoe to explore the lake. We also have several fishing rods and tackle boxes for your use. - Boating: We have a dock so you can bring or rent a boat. Boat access is provided by a ramp owned by the Public Access Board and located off Whiley Road / Lost Lake Drive at the northeastern end of the pond (for a detailed map, see “Public Access to the Waters of Massachusetts”). There is adequate parking for ten vehicles and the ramp is suitable for small trailer boats, car top boats and canoes. Biking, Driving, Boating, Walking, Swimming - almost every mode of transportation! The house is designed for outdoor living so while it can accommodate 6 guests; it is more comfortably suited to a family of 4. It is a two bedroom with a brand new comfortable pull out couch which sleeps two. Welcoming day visitors is fine but we require that parties of 8 or more (total) be requested / approved in advance. Late Checkout Option - we understand weekends are short and many times guests want to stay all day Sunday but not overnight. If our booking schedule permits, we offer a late checkout option for those who would like to extend their checkout time from 11 am to 7 pm on the last day of their stay. The rate is 50% of the full-day rate for that particular day. While we love our 4-legged family members, unfortunately due to ensuring our home is suitable for all with allergies, we don't allow any pets. There is no smoking inside the home under any circumstances. Guests must recognize that the water is a hazard. Guests must assume all responsibility for their personal safety when swimming and boating. State law requires the use of personal flotation devices. We require all guests to sign a Liability Waiver before arriving.
