Ideal for visiting NJ with day trips to NYC, this duplex apartment sleeps up to 20 and is two blocks from Newark Broad St station. Do note that -We ask that you agree to the house rules, and provide names of all guests, and reason of your trip. -We strictly enforce: No parties. No visitors. No marijuana or smoking on the property. -We are in Newark. Our neighborhood is not trendy, but it is safe and central. -We live on site, on the 3rd floor apartment. During the day you might hear our kids. Fully-renovated duplex apartment with new kitchen and appliances; modern, cozy furniture and art throughout. The entrance to the apartment is on the second floor after an easy flight of stairs from the main foyer. The main common spaces -- kitchen, living room, and dinning area -- are on this floor as well as 3 bedrooms (1-3) and 2 full bathrooms. On the ground floor there are 2 additional bedrooms, a semi-private alcove with a double bed (“bedroom #6”), another bathroom with a shower, and a family room with a second Roku TV, additional couches, and a small table to play boardgames. The ground floor sleeps an additional 5-9 people -- 5 in the extra bedrooms and up to 4 in the common spaces. With additional beds that can be set up, the apartment can accommodate up to 20 people. If your group has more than 16 people, contact us for an accurate rental quote. We live in the same building, but in a separate apartment on the third floor. We are delighted to meet you and will welcome guests personally when you arrive, and tell you a bit about the neighborhood, how to navigate public transit, and anything else that might make your stay better; but we can also give you as much space and privacy as you may want. We live in the apartment on the third floor, but we are also set up so you can check yourself in. We are always on hand as needed. Hablamos español. On parle français. It is very important to us that you understand our location before booking as that is the one thing we cannot change. We are in the Lower Broadway neighborhood just north of Downtown Newark which is home to a diverse population of Latinos and immigrants from other backgrounds. This means that great food, access to public transportation, shows and many other great perks are within walking distance. This is a vibrant neighborhood that, like other key areas of Newark, is going through significant renewal and redevelopment, processes that are still very much under way (i.e., we are not as beautiful as we will soon be). If you don't let yourself be stopped by the couple of lots waiting redevelopment around us, you will find an array of small family-run restaurants and stores within 1-2 blocks radius of the apartment. Still, while luxury condos have begun to pop up here and there, we feel safe, and we think our neighbors are among the best, the Lower Broadway still remains much more ethnic and unpolished than trendy and manicured. Please look it up before booking :) We are also on a street that gets busy during rush hour, and that also means a little extra noise, particularly in the warmer months. It is not uncommon to hear Salsa and Latin music blasting from cars passing by, from the neighboring shops, or coming from the various music festivals held in the riverfront. (We do provide top of the line disposable earbuds in case you want them). SAFETY We can honestly say that we love it here and feel safe. Our neighbors are friendly and, for the most part, truly awesome. The two-block walk between our house and the train station -- aside from dealing with some ongoing construction around the train station (which can make the use of some sidewalks a bit less straightforward) -- is rather uneventful and often shared with other people commuting to/from NYC for work. There is also a Police Station 4-5 blocks away from the house. Street parking is relatively easy and access to public transportation is great. We are 2 blocks north of the Broad Street Station which has NJ Transit trains to NY Penn Station right in Midtown Manhattan (a 20 minute ride and a $5.25 fare). PATH trains are 1.4 miles away or a short and cheap Uber ride. We are steps away from several bus lines and within an easy stroll of Rutgers-Newark, NJPAC and the Prudential Center (a 20 minute walk). Newark International Airport is less than 5 miles away, and the Go28 bus -- which can take you to/from the airport in as little as 18 minutes -- stops 1.5 blocks away from our door. 1) If you are flying in/out of Newark International Airport you'll see that we are a very convenient place to stay. Unless you are coming to New Jersey properly, that is not the necessarily the case if you are flying in to La Guardia or JFK. Even from Manhattan, getting to these other two airports by public transportation is not for the faint of heart, and a car service to NJ can be expensive. So please, do your research prior to booking.
