The Bunkhouse at Big Red Stables
There is no better way to experience Kentucky than horseback riding the rolling hills of the Bluegrass. Big Red Stables is happy to offer the Bunkhouse to visitors who want to ride horses, travel to nearby bourbon distilleries, go to the races or events at the Kentucky Horse Park, or just get away from it all on a third generation family farm. Horseback riding by appointment only as arranged with your hosts. The Bunkhouse was the home of Judy Burks, my mother and the founder of Big Red Stables, more than 30 years ago. My husband, Drew, and I are keeping mom's legacy alive by opening her house to overnight guests, in particular to those interested in staying on a farm and horseback riding while visiting Kentucky. The Bunkhouse is yours for the duration of your stay. Happy to answer any and all questions, especially as relates to horseback riding at Big Red Stables or suggested activities during your stay. We can visit as little or as often with you as you like. Big Red Stables is located at the far western end of a dead end road, Jackson Pike, in Mercer County near Harrodsburg, KY. We are 45 minutes from downtown Lexington, about an hour and a half from downtown Louisville and an hour's drive or less from most major attractions on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. We offer guided horseback rides on our farm, and at nearby Shaker Village and Eagles Nest Equestrian Trails. It's best to rent a car or bring your own to get around Kentucky. However, if you fancy sampling bourbon during distillery tours, ditch the car and hire a tour driver. We recommend booking distillery stops with Central Kentucky Tours. The Bunkhouse is self catering. Please bring with you anything you wish to cook.
