Historic, renovated, train station in the heart of Virginia hunt and wine country. This private oasis sits on the second floor above three gorgeous art studios belonging to local artists. Enroll in an art workshop, enjoy twilight polo and horse races at Great Meadows, or find yourself having a romantic dinner in our little village of The Plains. The historic train station was built in 1915 and has brought life to the little village of The Plains ever since. The large windows and beautiful brick create a warm and welcoming atmosphere with great light - especially for artists. There have been art studios on the first floor of the train station for decades. The second floor (100 ' by 20') in total, and the center room was previously the Station Master's office. With 1 bedroom and adjoining full bath, half bath on 1st floor (which is shared with the artists), a modern kitchen, and a great space for dining and lounging. Two additional twin/day beds are located in a 23' by 15' room off the kitchen. The kitchen is fully stocked for any baking or cooking needs you may have during you stay. We are within walking distance of great restaurants and shops. See our recommendations below. The Whistle Stop occupies the entire second floor of The Plains Train Station and so everything on the second floor is open to your use. The first floor serves as a studio space for local artists that come and go throughout the day. Please do not go into the artist studios unless you are welcomed by the artist - they are very sweet and usually leave their doors open if they would like people to wander through. My policy is that I'm there when you need me! Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns and I will get back to you as soon as I can. The Plains is a small village in Northern Virginia located between Middleburg and Warrenton. Need some recommendations for when you're in town? We have a few: Restaurants: Girasole The Rail Stop Front Porch Happy Creek Coffee & Tea Activities: - Great Meadows is a 5 minute drive and has many great events throughout the year -There are a few wonderful art galleries in town. While we're quite partial to the three art galleries on the first floor of the train station, be sure to check these out too: Young Blood Art Studio Zig Zag Gallery Live an Artful Life Gallery Local Shops: Peyton's Place Fine Furniture and Interior Design Hunt Country Yarns The Bittersweet Garden Local Vineyards: Boxwood Winery Greenhill Winery The Winery at La Grange Unfortunately the train stopped being a passenger train in the 40's! Everything in The Plains is within walking distance of The Whistle Stop, however we recommend having a car if you would like to explore the surrounding area. Does the train go by? Yes it does! Please know that the train goes by at all hours, night and day. It is not a passenger train and will not stop in The Plains, so the train will usually go by within a few seconds.
