Charming real log cabin less than 5 minutes from Little Switzerland and within walking distance of Blue Ridge Parkway. Features a spacious loft with king-size bed, living room with a fold-out full-size bed, full kitchen, huge deck with giant covered front porch, very quiet and private, propane grill picnic table and firepit beautiful views of sunset. Only 1.5 miles from the Switzerland Inn, 12 miles from the Penland School of Crafts and 3 miles from Wildacres Retreat Center. Enjoy the quiet and calm of our peaceful mountain home! Real solid log construction, wonderful babbling brooks surround the yard, great spaces for outdoor grilling and dining al fresco, lovely quiet woods on three sides, and a beautiful view of the valley in front. The cabin is private, has a huge yard, large yard, great places for walking and enjoying nature. SLEEPING: There is a king-size bed upstairs, a fold-out full bed/sofa downstairs, plenty of pillows and blankets, and a pack & play. PHONE: There is no phone service but cell phone coverage is available for some carriers if you stand outside on the deck. WI FI: Very reliable high-speed cable internet is provided. The password for wireless internet is on the bottom of the Belkin router. TV: There is a TV with a DVD player and radio. There is an antenna, which receives 3 PBS channels. There is no cable service yet. KITCHEN: The cabin has a full-size refrigerator, a stove, a microwave, and a dishwasher, along with some basic kitchen implements, including plates and glasses, silverware, saucepan, skillet, salad spinner, a drip coffee pot and a french press coffee pot. There is a propane grill outside under the deck, and a small charcoal grill in the basement (bring your own charcoal). TOILETRIES and PAPER SUPPLIES: Soap, bathroom tissue, paper towels, and trash bags are provided. AIR CONDITIONING: Window unit in summer (removed in winter). HEAT: Baseboard heaters. LAUNDRY: Efficiency size washer and dryer in the basement. TRASH: Please take your trash and recycling with you when you go. This is a rural area and we do not have trash service. We apologize for this inconvenience. You may take it to one of four county-operated "convenience centers" for recycling and trash: 1: 2097 Altapass Hwy, 2.5 mi. from Spruce Pine, open Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri, Sat 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. 2: 200 American Thread Road, Marion, open Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat 6:30a.m. to 6:30 p.m. 3: Bakersville, Highway 226, near Mine Creek Road; open Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri, Sat 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. 4: Buladean, NC Highway 226 at Hughes Gap Road; open Mon, Thu, Fri, Sat 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. 5: Red Hill, Hwy. 197, near Hwy. 226; open Tue, Fri, Sat 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The outside features a large deck, charcoal grill, gas grill, and fire pit. There is plenty of parking space and motorcycles can be parked under the deck. If you come in the winter months, snow and ice are possible. If you visit during these months, we strongly suggest that you consider driving an all-wheel-drive or 4x4 vehicle. We also have a two-bedroom, two bathroom cottage next door, which we rent on airbnb. NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: Mount Mitchell State Park Altapass Orchard Emerald Village Mine Crabtree Falls at milepost 339.5 on the Blue Ridge Parkway Roan Mountain Linville Falls – about 45 minute drive. Penland School of Crafts - 12 miles. Wildacres Retreat Center Switzerland Inn Groceries: Ingles or Walmart in Spruce Pine (about 15 minute drive). This house is not wheel-chair accessible. Guests must walk up steps to get to inside and the bedroom is upstairs. The bedroom is semi-private (upstairs, with a half-wall), and the living room (fold-out couches) are open to the main living space. There is a small, apartment-sized washer and dryer set up in the basement, and there is usually detergent.
