Sunny basement apt. Priv 2 Bed. Walk 2 Metro!
--2 BEDROOM SUNNY ABOVE GROUND BASEMENT. Sep entr, cable, Wi-Fi, laundry. Park in front. MAN CAVE. Quiet & cozy. Access to DC/BWI/VA & the 3 HWYs Great 4 commuters! *10 min 2 DR's & PG hospitals.* Walk to stores* **Walk to Metro** Ten minutes to New York Avenue, Wash DC BUT THERE'S A CATCH SO KEEP READING. Read the whole listing. You may have to click MORE Yes it is long - b/c it contains everything you need to know. Please read it. **NOTE - FEB 2022** My intention was to provide tourists, interns, rotating doctors, ppl needing a place while looking for a place & the like, a basic clean quiet environment at reasonable price. Others charge a lot more. But since Covid & people working from home, my utilities have gone up exponentially! I think the extra usage bumps me to higher rate category. Lights on 16+ hours a day, more electricity, heat/air on 24 hours a day. It's a lot (avg $500). And it's not worth the hassle to barely break even after Air’s fees, taxes, etc. I could raise the rates $10-$20 a night like everyone else - but I'm still trying to help the people that work outside of the house, but need a break. So, this is what I'm thinking. 1. I prefer those not working from home - it's weird having someone at your house 24 hours a day/7 days a week. **2. If you do work from home & stay more than a couple of weeks, there will be a ** $200 monthly utility fee** for up to two people or the air/heat will be lowered 6 hours/5 days. Please let me know your situation when you write. I think this is fair & transparent. Also, longer term ( 3 weeks+) preferred. I won't know availability more than a few weeks out b/c a guest may request to stay sooner thru that term. For example - I won't book in Feb for June b/c a guest in March might want to stay thru July which would be preferable to a bunch of short term stays during the same period. ************************************************** ORIGINAL LISTING This sunny 2 bedroom apt is in an above ground basement of an old Cape Cod. 5 min walk to the New Carrollton Metro. Park in front of the house. Sun & light through the big windows. There is a full bath - with great water pressure, two bedrooms (one small, one med-large), a living room area & kitchen space. There is also a washer/dryer (shared). There is a fridge & an old rusty microwave. All the basics to cook are there - pots & pans, utensils, etc. Dorm-sized stove w/ four burners & oven. Cabinets have tupper ware, condiments & things people leave. Coffee maker upon request. Sheets & towels are from Walmart YOU -Aren't too particular -Are adventurous. :-) -Want to save money, but still want your privacy :-) -Are responsible & will be respectful of my house & neighbors (no wild parties, no smoking in my house, no police). -Just want a quiet warm/cool place to pass the time, do some light cooking, walk to the metro, get decent sleep & save money. -You don't mind cleaning up after yourself FYI - Many guests stay 12-18 months. Jesse stayed twice. Antoine (1st rvw) stayed 18 months; Mikini came Dec. 2017, stayed downstairs for 6 months, then moved upstairs until Dec. 2018. This is a great place to stay while looking for somewhere to stay. I usually get ppl relocating to the area, doctors on rotation, temp. workers, interns, etc. OH AND JOSHUA (7/19) IS A CRAZY LYING EXTORTER. lol. So, I'll interject THE CATCH here. U get what you pay for :-) 1. You are expected to leave the space in the same or better condition than when you arrived. You must clean up after yourself. Maid service after each guest is expensive. I'm trying to offer an affordable rate; the hotel up the street doesn't ask you to clean - but you can't get a room for under $60 either. They have a two-room suite for $518 a night - recently renovated. Think about what you get for that rate. Then think about my rate. Lower your expectations. :-) There's nothing wrong with it - it just isn't upscale. The furniture is Ikea or thrift store, the sheets and towels came from Walmart. I do buy them regularly and there are often new ones. 2. We did a lot of DIY. It's clean & quiet. But the baseboards keep popping away from the walls and the grout lines might not be straight. The floors are brand new & pricey but installed poorly. (smh b/c I did it). One of the bedroom doors is missing - but this can be fixed if you need to use the 2nd room. 4. There is a huge backyard and an unusable deck that needs a good cleaning. There's crap under the deck that I intend to dispose of/donate soon (anyone wanna buy a big dog cage/carrier?). If you wanna mow for a discount - let me know. 5. NOT VERY KID FRIENDLY RIGHT NOW, THERE IS WORK GOING ON IN THE YARD. NO ACCESS TO THE DECK Tennis & basketball courts at West Lanham Neighborhood Park - walking distance. Do a search for "New Carrollton Metro" in Hyattsville, MD. If you zoom in on Route 450 you should be able to see the neighborhood (West Lanham) and all the stores nearby. I guess you can search West Lanham Neighborhood Park Rec Center too. Ten minutes to two hospitals and the University of MD. They have a shuttle that stops up the street. I'm reasonable & a little flexible for the right person/situation. Long term & single person discounts available, but know 3-6 weeks isn't long term & summer is busy. Your private entrance is the only usable entrance. Keyless entry. The space is your own - although the laundry room (only) might be shared. Two bedroom basement apartment. There is a really big backyard. Is mostly unkept & at times unsightly Tennis & basketball courts at West Lanham Neighborhood Park around the corner. Little interaction. 5 minute neighborhood tour ( IF I'm in town & u want) and inspection upon leaving. Someone always available to address any issues that might arise BUT I may not physically be at the location. I may never see you. This place is for low-maintenance self-sufficient guests only. The neighborhood is extremely diverse. Spanish to right, Norwegian to the left. Japanese around the corner. It is urban. We have some hippies, some blue-collar, professionals, unemployed and lots of elderly. Pretty close knit community; it consists of 6-8 blocks down in a little valley. We have monthly neighborhood meetings, fun day, Halloween parties, Santa's Workshop, senior trips & we buy back to school supplies for all the kids. Sometimes it looks grungy, but it has always been safe. I've had tenants of all races over the years and never had a problem. West Lanham is an unincorporated area of Hyattsville. The rec center is around the corner with a little playground, grills, benches, basketball & tennis court. BEST COMMUTER LOCATION EVER. You can get to everywhere from here. No, seriously. But, please use the website for wmata (the metro) or a map service using New Carrollton Metro as your start or endpoint. Hyattsville, MD 20784 - I can not track everybody's commute. WALK to the metro and GO. The DC Metro into D.C, Marc Train or Amtrak to BWI airport, or New York all come thru. 2-5 minutes to every major thoroughfare into DC or out of town - Route 50, The Parkway (295), The Beltway (495), etc. The ride to DC is about 6 minutes, 18 to downtown DC. +/- 25 minutes to BWI Airport on Marc, +/- 30 on Metro to DCA (Reagan National) Airport.
