The perfect getaway for solo adventurers, couples or the ideal artist's retreat. When was the last time you had the chance to experience an overnight in a yurt? Situated in a bucolic wooded lot in Woodbridge, CT, just 15 minutes from downtown New Haven, the Yurt is “glamping” at its best—not quite roughing it, but not quite luxury either. All the comforts of home—a/c, heat, a classic Malm gas fireplace, WiFi, fridge, and an induction cooktop. A pullout full sized sofa with memory foam topper comfortably sleeps two. An eco-friendly toilet is in the yurt for middle-of-the-night bladder relief, but most guests prefer walking the extra steps to the main house to access the comforts of the full bathroom with stall shower. If outdoor showers are your thing (they are mine!) we’ve got one steps away outside The Yurt and it’s yours to enjoy in warmer weather. Insulated and toasty in the winter, and cool as a cucumber in the summer, the yurt is a year-round retreat. Relax with a campfire around your own private stone fire pit or fire up the Smokey Joe Weber Grill for a great outdoor BBQ. All in all it’s pretty darn cool. Guests will have private access to the yurt, firepit, outdoor shower and private full bath in the main house. We live on premises in the main house and work from home, so we're available for any questions, travel tips, and to make your stay comfortable and memorable. Then again, if you just want to be left alone, we get it and will be very respectful of your privacy. Located about five miles northwest of downtown New Haven, Woodbridge is the rural bedroom-community of Yale surrounded by rolling green countryside and an extensive network of walking trails throughout town. Enjoy the museums and culture of a classic New England college town and the architecturally-rich Yale University campus, about a 15 minute car-ride away. New Haven boasts world-class entertainment and restaurants (including world-famous New Haven Pepe's and Sally's pizza). Visit the cosmopolitan hub and then return to your escape in the woods. Or just get away from it all and “yurt-it” for your stay. We are surrounded by beautiful trails to hike and places to bike. We’ve got trail maps in The Yurt. Woodbridge also boasts a local winery and nearby Bethany has plenty of places to saddle up a horse and enjoy horseback riding. Browse for the perfect book at a local favorite, the Whitlock Book Barn, set overlooking a picturesque pasture of grazing horses. Seymour, just minutes away, has some great antique markets and a Main Street reminiscent of old New England. The Yurt “glamping” site includes a stone fire pit. Let us know if yoga’s your thing and we can arrange for a private yoga lesson. Or how about treating yourself to a massage with a licensed massage therapist? For those with special dietary needs, we can arrange for glatt-kosher meal delivery, or point you in the direction of local halal, kosher and vegetarian restaurants and shopping.
