For train lovers (young and old), enjoy visit to Roaring Camp Railroad. Special excursions include: -Thomas the Tank Engine and Percy - Halloween Ghost Train - new Chanukah Train - Holiday Tree Walk. One of our favorite winter traditions is cutting down our Christmas tree at one of the beautiful tree farms near Boulder Creek. Our house: We first saw our house in the winter rains and were instantly charmed. It is a cozy retreat in the redwoods, and it has been lovingly maintained and decorated for our family and friends' use. It was exclusively our family's weekend and holiday retreat for seven years before we began sharing it with others via VRBO and other listing services. Our family has had countless special times there with our children, friends, and visiting relatives. We are very happy to share the house with others and have been thrilled that so many guests have discovered the Santa Cruz mountains while visiting. Boulder Creek: Boulder Creek is a vintage small town - it has one stop sign! It's the town closest to Big Basin Redwood State Park, so most visitors go to Boulder Creek on their way to take walks or hikes in the old-growth redwoods. Even though Boulder Creek is very small, there are two grocery stores - one Safeway-like, the other more similar to Whole Foods. There are also several restaurants, some great coffee places, a liquor store and dispensary, a couple of fun antique stores & thrift stores, a pharmacy and tea room, and a few places to get wonderful massages/facials. One of our favorite outings (and our dog's!) is a ride on Roaring Camp & Big Trees Narrow-Gauge Railroad - we ride the steam train up to old-growth redwoods at Bear Mountain, followed by a hike among more amazing old-growth redwoods at Henry Cowell State Park (right next door). We also love to spend the afternoon exploring the river and river-beaches and berry picking. Zip-lining or the ropes course at nearby Mount Hermon's Redwood Canopy Tours is a fantastic and safe adventure! Visiting local wineries is another favorite way to spend an afternoon with friends. * Gas grill not available during the high fire risk season, so sorry! * There is a security camera on the front deck only.
